I know we are all really excited about Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, but let’s turn our attention to the other Joker existing in the movie-universe. It was confirmed that the reason why Jared Leto’s Joker has a grill in his mouth is due to Batman literally knocking his teeth out, after the villain murdered one of Batman’s Robins. We also see proof that Robin was killed in Batman vs Superman, where Bruce Wayne kept Robin’s costume, which clearly had the joker’s mocking graffiti all over it.
A fan pointed out, though; an inconsistency with this whole theory. In the flashback scene in Suicide Squad, we see the Joker in Arkham Asylum, sporting his mouth jewelry. This would mean someone didn’t do their homework, considering that Harley Quinn’s bio status is that she was an accomplice to the murder. Setting the record straight, director David Ayer confirmed on Twitter that the timeline was changed after his film was finished filming.

This isn’t the first time that something like this happened and it probably won’t be the rest. We all know that either way, Leto’s Joker’s grill has been a subject of scrutiny and the inconsistencies with directors, timelines, filming, and scripts have been a somewhat common theme within the DCEU. We can only hope everyone can continue to improve on the shaky start to the DCEU, with exciting films like Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 1984 coming up!
