Swamp Thing Could Have Had Three Season Arc and Led to Justice League Dark

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”23700″ img_size=”875×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]DC Universe’s Swamp Thing only had two episodes air before it was canceled. While the rest of the ten episodes will be released, that’s it. No season two. Fans were upset to say the least. Whether it’s budgeting errors, tax rebates in regards to the location it was filmed at (North Carolina), or anything else, fans don’t really care too much for the details when it comes to a beloved show being axed. Believe me, as someone who mourns the Marvel Netflix universe, I know.

One Swamp Thing producer described the cancellation in a report from Business Insider as a shock. Production had created an aura of hopefulness that had alluded to a second season coming. Apparently, the season was still in production when the word came. As you remember, originally the series was meant to have thirteen episodes, which were cut down to ten. This was clearly something no one close to the series expected, which was echoed by executive producer James Wan:

“Don’t really know or understand why #Swampthing was canceled, but I can tell you this — all the cast and crew, and producing/writing team poured their hearts into this,” he wrote. “Really proud of everyone’s hard work. Go watch episode 2, and immortalize these 10 episodes. Swampy deserves it.” Wan expressed on Instagram.

This is probably going to hurt for fans, but a source close to production told Business Insider that Swamp Thing had the potential for a three-season arc, with the possibility of spin-offs. One which could have been a Justice League Dark team-up series. This unnamed producer also mentioned that Warner Bros. was perfectly clear on how much it was going to take to make this show and how much North Carolina would commit in the form of tax rebates.

This is all speculative and should be taken with a grain of salt, but regardless of the reason, fans are always the ones suffering when their shows are canceled for reasons that are behind the scenes.

What have you thought of Swamp Thing so far?
