The Coven, a France-based distribution outfit, has announced the launch of world sales for the highly anticipated threequel, “Terrifier 3.” The decision to move forward with the third installment comes after the breakout success of “Terrifier 2” at the box office last year. The franchise’s writer-director, Damien Leone, and producer, Phil Falcone, will return to oversee the continuation of the terrifying series.

While the plot of “Terrifier 3” is being kept under wraps, fans can expect the return of key cast members, including David Howard Thornton, who portrays the infamous Art The Clown, and Lauren LaVera, who played Sienna. The Coven will serve as the executive producer for the film. Filming is scheduled to begin in November or December of this year, with a planned release in late 2024. Notably, the third film will receive a significant budget increase, landing in the low-mid seven figure range, indicating the production team’s commitment to elevating the franchise to new heights.

The success of “Terrifier 2” cannot be understated. Despite having a modest budget of approximately $250,000, the film generated over $15 million in global box office revenue, with more than $10 million earned in the United States alone, distributed by Cinedigm. Premiering at Frightfest and FantasticFest, the movie garnered attention for its gore and dedication to practical effects, reminiscent of “old school” horror. With a commendable 85% critical score and 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, “Terrifier 2” established itself as a fan-favorite in the horror genre.

The sequel delved into the nefarious exploits of Art the Clown, who, after being resurrected by a sinister entity, returned to the quiet town of Miles County to unleash terror on a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night. Building upon the success of its predecessor, “Terrifier 3” promises to push the boundaries even further, delivering the no holds barred, uncompromising horror experience that fans have come to expect and celebrate. According to Priscilla Smith of The Coven, the upcoming installment has already garnered significant interest from potential buyers. Smith also hinted at a much larger budget for “Terrifier 3,” allowing the filmmakers to have more creative freedom and bring their wildest visions to life. In a surprising twist, Smith jokingly stated that they were aiming for an Oscar this year, perhaps hinting at the team’s dedication to raising the bar in the horror genre.

Damien Leone, the visionary behind the franchise, expressed his excitement for “Terrifier 3.” He promised that the third film would be another groundbreaking addition to the horror genre, continuing the franchise’s tradition of relentless terror. Leone teased that if fans thought Art the Clown’s reign of terror in the second film was extreme, they haven’t seen anything yet, building anticipation and setting high expectations for the upcoming installment.

As fans eagerly await further details on the plot and cast of “Terrifier 3,” it is clear that this threequel has the potential to leave a lasting mark on the horror genre. With a larger budget, the filmmakers aim to unleash their creativity and deliver a wild and unforgettable experience for audiences worldwide. The franchise’s growing popularity and critical acclaim only serve to heighten anticipation, as horror enthusiasts eagerly await the return of Art the Clown and the twisted world he inhabits in “Terrifier 3.”
