The Batman’s Matt Reeves Gives Details On Upcoming Film

DC FanDome premiered a teaser trailer for Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman film. It was absolutely amazing and only 25% of the movie has been filmed. Reeves spoke about the upcoming project, attempting to answer some of the questions that we had beforehand.

Reeves said:

“As I got deeper into genre, that was a way to do very emotional stories under the guise of these very mythic stories.”

The movie will also see Batman making mistakes that will help him grow in his new role as a hero – as this film takes place about a year and a half after Bruce Wayne becomes the hero. Reeves also teases that this version of Batman will be the version most are used to seeing. Instead, he will be broken. Matt Reeves looks to have people look at a new way to empathize with Bruce Wayne.

Reeves spoke highly of Robert Pattinson, who is the man donning the cowl this time around:

“An incredible actor… He’s been working on his craft in this incredible way, and he also happens to be a tremendous, passionate fan of Batman, like I am.”

Pattinson added

“Looks like Batman, but more than anything, I think he has the soul” of the character — or, at least, a Dark Knight in the second year of what Reeves described as an “experiment” to see if Gotham can be changed by one man.

Reeves teased that the experiment will not go well. Gotham city is too corrupt. This corruption will be explored more in the Gotham City Police Department series that’s being developed for HBO Max.

Batman will also deal with how deep his own family was involved in the corruption of Gotham City. Throughout it all, Batman will be investigating a series of murders. Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman and Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot will pop up in these murder investigations. Of course, Paul Dano will play:

“A version of the Riddler that no-one’s ever seen before,” according to Reeves.

Reeves cites the inspirations behind his version of The Batman:

“I guess a lot of really ‘70s, street, grounded stories.”

Are you excited for The Batman, which hits theaters on October 1, 2021?
