Aya Cash plays Stormfront in The Boys season two. The second season of this hit Amazon Prime series will premiere on September 4th, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t get some big news in the meantime. For one, during Comic-Con@Home, it was announced that The Boys has been renewed for a third season. We also have gotten sneak peeks, additional footage, and insights into new characters. Like Stormfront.
In the comics, Stormfront is a male “superhero” who is literally a racist Nazi. The Boys TV gender-bent the character and we aren’t sure how much of Stormfront’s Third Reich origins carry over to the actual show. We do know that, from showrunner Eric Kripke; that season two will tackle subjects like white supremacy.
Cash did weigh in during Comic-Con@Home on her character how she “violently disagrees” with Stormfront’s values:
“What I think is so great about The Boys — and I got to also see episodes before I even auditioned, so I sort of came in as a fan — and what I love about it is that it’s so topical, and it takes what I love about all sci-fi and comic books and fantasy… it allows us to look at current issues with some sort of distance that allows us to see them clearer. Because when we talk about current events, often people take things very personally. And when you are watching something that is a fantasy or in a heightened world, you end up being able to sort of listen better and learn new things in different ways, because they’re out of your personal context.”
Cash continued:
“So, I was really excited about that. Not to say that there weren’t really hard moments of being a human being and playing a role. Someone who I ultimately violently disagree with. But I also, you know… my job as an actor is to find the humanity and go to, like, the ugly, gross parts of ourselves. And it’s [showrunner Eric Kripke’s] job to decide what happens to that character. And I think that he has done a beautiful job of both allowing her humanity, and hopefully, punishing her.”
Cash had also said to expect the unexpected with Stormfront. So, we’ll just have to continue watching to find out what this new adaptation of Stormfront entails. The Boys returns September 4th on Amazon Prime!
