Harry Potter and the world of witchcraft and wizardry hold a ton of appeal to hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. An estimated 18 percent of people have read all the Harry Potter books from start to finish. A distinguishing part of the Harry Potter world is the Hogwarts Houses that the Sorting Hat chooses based on your personality and values.

Knowing which houses at Hogwarts, you’d likely end up in is part of the fun of exploring the world of Harry Potter. Understanding what it means to get selected to Ravenclaw or Slytherin at your magical boarding school is essential.

The good news is that you’ve found the perfect guide to learning all about the Hogwarts houses and the meanings behind each. Keep reading to learn more today!

    Gryffindor

Gryffindor is the Hogwarts house you’ll likely end up in if you’re filled with daring and courage. The Sorting Hat chooses individuals who show off qualities like bravery and determination, and Professor McGonagall heads the house.

Some of the most talented wizards and witches were members of Gryffindor, like Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore. Odds are you’re the first to stand up for what’s right if you’re picked to join Gryffindor during your Hogwarts Legacy walkthrough.

    Slytherin

Slytherin is another popular option when considering Hogwarts Houses. It’s easy to mistake all witches and wizards that belong to House Slytherin as evil. Many standup wizards and witches have graduated from Slytherin and accomplished great things.

The emblem for this house is a serpent, and the colors are silver and green. The Sorting Hat will likely place you in Slytherin if you’re destined to do great things and are full of ambition.

    Ravenclaw

Ravenclaw is home to the world’s brightest and wisest witches and wizards. You’ll wear blue and bronze as a member of Ravenclaw, and the house emblem is an eagle.

You’ll need to demonstrate keen knowledge and wisdom for the Sorting Hat to choose you for this Hogwarts House. It’s also an excellent spot for overachievers who are fearless in being themselves.

    Hufflepuff

Hufflepuff is the last of the four Hogwarts Houses, but it’s not the least. You’ll need to be trustworthy and have a great work ethic to enter Hufflepuff upon arrival at Hogwarts. Humble and hardworking friends surround you as a member of this house.

Hufflepuff is also the house that has produced the fewest dark wizards and witches. It’s home to many with a solid moral compass and a sense of right and wrong.

Choose Your Favorite Hogwarts Houses Today

Getting picked by one of your favorite Hogwarts Houses is a massive accomplishment in the world of witchcraft and wizardry. Gryffindor is home to those who are bold and daring, while Slytherin is the spot to be if you’re ambitious about the future. Ravenclaw is the Hogwarts house for overachievers and thinkers, while Hufflepuff members are trustworthy and humble.
