The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: Sam and Bucky’s Stories Take Center Stage In Pilot Episode

As MCU fans, we’ve always enjoyed Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. We’ve been there to the end of the line with Bucky. And we’ve had a loyal friend in Sam. Not only have we loved both separately, but the two created comedic gold when forced to work together in Captain America: Civil War. We knew it was time for their stories to be told once Steve Rogers handed Sam the shield in Avengers: Endgame. And I’m happy to say that their solo Disney+ series starts off by hitting the ground running.

What Makes This Show Great

Everything you love about Captain America: The Winter Soldier is in this show. These characters thrive from showcasing very grounded stories, despite living in a superhero kind of world. Bucky may be over a hundred years old and Sam has fought literal aliens, but their stories are very real ones. The trauma Bucky has experienced and the family/financial issues Sam faces are very real. Having to contend with their futures and pasts aren’t exclusive to these two Avengers. They’re something every person has faced.

A Bigger Look Into Sam and Bucky

While Bucky and Sam have not had any interactions together in episode one, you know it’s being set up. And each has their fair share of screen time – explaining how each person has been doing since coming back from the Blip. Sam has always been the right decision for the shield and his decision in the beginning of the episode displays that selflessness that always spoke to his character. Bucky’s demons are still very much there, but he isn’t a walking shell. We see his personality and some of his sardonic humor shine through her. Both stories are equally captivating and heartbreaking in their own ways.

There’s Plenty of Action

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier features that beautiful hand-to-hand combat that we’ve become accustomed to seeing in the Captain America films. Some old villains come back and new ones are introduced. Not only were the fight scenes great, but the action sequences were done so well. From the first minute, you’re captivated and forty minutes fly by.

Rating: 5/5

WandaVision was truly a needed and welcomed change to the usual MCU formula. And The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a happy return to what made the Captain America trilogy one of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The great thing now is that we get to see this more grounded version of these characters, where each can be fleshed out and given their own time to shine – without being Steve Rogers’ counterpart.

I’m only one episode in and I already regard The Falcon and The Winter Soldier show as a tour de force in the MCU. I cannot wait for more! Tune in this Friday!
