‘The Flight Attendant’ Episodes 4-5 Review: Diving Deeper Into Cassie’s Past

HBO Max put out two new episodes of The Flight Attendant. Episode 4 ‘Conspiracy Theories’ and episode 5 ‘Other People’s Houses’. Both serve as a deep dive into Cassie’s past – as well as what the hell Alex was involved in. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t good. Or legal.

Slight Spoilers

Kaley Cuoco continues to really flex her acting chops as Cassie. I really don’t want to hear anyone say that she isn’t talented. She’s brought fun, heightened anxiety, adventure, and danger to the series. She’s continuing to try to not only clear her name, but find out who the real killer of Alex is. In my previous review, I had expressed that Alex seemed like a nice guy and he and Cassie would’ve probably had a nice relationship if he weren’t dead. I take that back – Alex was definitely mixed up in some stuff that he shouldn’t have.

Both episodes were great and offered their own focal point. In episode four, it was the relationship between Cassie and her brother Davey. Previously, we’d only see the two speak over the phone. Now, they were in person. And it’s clear this relationship is far from being salvageable. While I do truly feel sorry for Davey having to live under the scrutiny of his alcoholic father, part of me wishes he would not project his feelings onto Cassie. Yes, Cassie has a drinking problem. A problem started by the very father Davey despises. Because the father is not around, he takes his frustrations out on Cassie. Davey’s own trauma is valid, but so is Cassie. I hope these siblings can work out their differences and both can understand how hurt they are by their childhoods.

Episodes four and five weren’t just about Cassie. We learned more about the underworld that seemingly Megan and now Annie are involved in. The FBI comes no closer to really learning the truth and Miranda is perhaps not the one pulling the strings. In fact, she may also soon be a causality of the world she and Alex were involved in. Everyone was great these episodes, but I’m getting very interested in Megan’s story. Rosie Perez plays this character so well. Is she a pleasant wife and mother? Or a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie looking for excitement in places that could lead down bad paths? It seems both Megan and Annie are separately going down lanes they aren’t prepared for.

Rating: 4.5/5

The end of episode five was powerful and we’re going to see the fallout in episode six. Which, I can’t wait to watch. Cuoco really is so good in what she’s doing and the way the show frames tragedy and suspense is perfect. I can’t wait for episode six! How about you?
