The series will feature Sam Wilson as the new Captain America, appointed by Steve Rogers himself. In a recent interview with Kevin Smith and Marc Bernadin, the two discussed what fans should expect in the upcoming show. Bernadin explained that Wilson’s Captain America will not be welcomed with open arms by the government.
Bernadin stated:
“That, I think, is the crux of what that show’s going to be. The government doesn’t want Sam Wilson to be Captain America.”
This is from a source that Bernadin does not reveal, but is confident in the material. Considering the government tried to control the Avengers with the Sokovia Accords and Wilson was one of the naysayers of this treaty, it makes sense they wouldn’t want him as Cap. With Steve Rogers gone, the government would most likely want to handpick their own Captain America, but sorry [not sorry], guys. Steve picked Sam and that’s how it’s going to be.
