‘The Leap: Marvel’s Agents of Shield’ Episode 10 Recap

Leap

When last we left the Agents of Shield, May had seemingly decided to follow through with her thought of killing Sarge. Nothing does that better than four bullets into your targets body and one in his head. But why did she do it? This and other questions were answered while even more were posed in the Episode entitled: Leap. So let’s get to it.

I Shot the Sarge?

Needless to say Mack and his team are shocked to learn that May shot and apparently killed Sarge while in his holding cell. Not only that, she confessed to doing it. As they remove Sarge’s body, Mack, Daisy and Yo-Yo try to come to grips with what happened. Nothing about the act is in character for May. She would not shoot Sarge down. She would be more likely to beat him to death than shoot him. Especially not in his cell. With that in mind, Mack has YoYo interrogate May while Daisy and Piper backtrack her activities, looking for any clue to what could have happened. Diaz, who was guarding May, leaves YoYo to question May (carrying a hitchhiker along the way). To Yo-Yo’s surprise, May questions why she is in a holding cell as she has no memory of what happened. Including her confession.

He’s ALIVE!

After Sarge is taken by Simmons, she discovers that even after being shot four times in his chest, that he is still alive. Not only is he still alive, but his wounds are starting to heal and his vitals are getting stronger. Not wanting this information to get out yet, Simmons has Sarge moved down to the morgue. Here, she straps him down and monitors him while he heals. As Sarge slowly recuperates, he has vague, blurred visions. It is if he has memories he can’t quite grasp. As he regains consciousness, the dreams slowly fade as Sarge dislocates his thumb to slip out of his restraints. OUCH! His goal? Izel.

Hide and Seek

As for the missing Izel, it is revealed that she has the ability to take over the body of an individual. Davis was her first victim. She purposely moves throughout the team, passing from Diaz (how she escaped the scene of the crime) to Piper. In the lab, the Izel controlled Piper steals one of the shrike crystal fragments. “They” run into Deke, so she transfers into him. Using the Shrike crystal like a compass, she uses it to lead her to a part of the Lighthouse that is restricted. Only the SHIELD director has the clearance to access that area. Her next move is clear. She needs the Director of Shield, But she doesn’t know who that is.

Mind Games

While this is going on, the team deduces that Izel is moving among them, possessing agents to get what she wants. The problem is to identify whom she is controlling. Realizing the need to isolate her movements, Mack locks down the Lighthouse. That way Izel can’t somehow escape from the facility.  He then assembles the command team together to make sure that they are not possessed. As they assess what they have learned, they realize that Izel might be able to control her hosts, but she apparently cannot access their memories. With that in mind, to verify that their Izel free, he has his agents disclose a personal secret. One that at least one other Agent in the room can verify. As soon as Daisy and YoYo are verified, Mack immediately locks them in a separate room. He fears that If Izel was somehow able to get control of either of them, she would be difficult to stop. She would then have control of one of SHIELD’s two most powerful human weapons.

Izel Proves Who’s in Control

They continue in the test with Fitz being outed as the host, when he doesn’t answer a question about Jemma. This induces Izel to reveal herself. She declares that she doesn’t want to harm anyone. She does, however, needs the director to access the top secret area. When Piper attempts to intercede, Izel demonstrates that she is in control by possessing Piper and making her shoot herself in the hand. As shocking as that was, Izel was not done. When that didn’t appear to convince them of her power, Izel passes through them in turn until she once again reaches Davis. While the rest of the team watches, she forces him to leap to his death. Using the moment of shock, and while they were distracted, Izel got what she desired: she possesses Mack.

Izel uses the Director to access the top secret area she wanted to enter. The chamber where the Gravitonium device was stored. Before she enters, she has Mack handcuff himself to a steel pipe and then has him pound his head into the wall, knocking him unconscious. Only then does she release Mack to gather the Gravitonium sphere. Sarge, who had followed her there, tries to kill Izel by shooting her. He quickly come to the realization that bullets are no more effective against her than they were in killing him. It is at this moment that Izel attempts to become Sarge’s history professor.

History Lesson

Izel explains that when the real Coulson used the device to seal off the power of the monoliths, the Di’Allas created a body that matched Coulson’s and sent it back through time and space into the realm where they live. She explains that their people are incorporeal and lack actual bodies and they greatly desire physical forms. To make this happen, the shrikes have infested host bodies throughout the galaxy. Taking their forms to move among the inhabitants and infest more people. It is Itzel’s plan to release their people into the universe to inhabit those host bodies using the power of the orb. She tells Sarge that it is the Coulson duplicate that he inhabited. His real name is… “Pachakutiq” Sarge hesitantly recites. She tells him he COULD stop her if he wasn’t so afraid to use his full power.

A Deal is Struck

After hearing her story, Sarge refuses to believe her. Izel tells Sarge that the memories he thinks are his are in fact, remnants of the original Coulson copy’s memories and are not true. While initially compelled by her story, Sarge cannot accept it and refuses once again to join Izel. Seeing she cannot convince him, Izel leaves with the device only to find Daisy and YoYo aiding the awakening Mack. Izel makes an attempt to possess Daisy, but YoYo, using her speed intervenes, letting Izel take her instead. Realizing YoYo’s abilities, she tells Mack that she could easily kill every one of them. Well before they knew what happened if she chose to do so. Instead, all she wants is to be given a jet and allowed to leave. After considering her offer and their present circumstances, Mack agrees to give her a jet as long as he comes with her. Izel agrees to this while May, Daisy and the team are helpless to do anything but watch as Mack goes with Izel. May assures Daisy that Mack will be alright and he is putting trust in his team.

More Questions

So what will happen now that Izel has what she believes will release her people to assume physical form? Will Sarge come to grips with what Izel told him or will the memories of the Coulson carbon copy form continue to plague him? Where is Enoch and will he somehow intervene? So many questions still remain and we have only two episodes left this season to make sense of things. Did you see Agents of Shield, Episode 10: The Leap?
