The Mandalorian Chapter 13: Possibly the Most Important Episode So Far

Slight Spoilers

The Mandalorian Chapter 13 wasted no time in introducing Ahsoka Tano. Dave Filoni and those behind the Disney+ must have known how important this character was to die-hard Star Wars fans. Which, is why they made sure to open the episode with Rosario Dawson as the beloved Jedi. There was something so wonderful about this episode. Whether it was the fact that Filoni directed it or because Dawson brought a certain warmness to the character, I’m not sure. But, it was a well-done episode that I wish was longer.

Chapter 13 was eerie at times, setting a visually uneasy scene that went well with the story of the episode. Most of the episode focuses heavily on Ahsoka. Though this is Ahsoka’s live-action deput, there was a certain “return to traditional Star Wars” aura to the episode (with it featuring a Jedi). I think I suddenly felt transported back into the movie-verse of Star Wars, though; this was the better continuation of the world of Darth Vader and Jedi than the most recent trilogy was. Sorry…but, also not sorry.

Rosario Dawson Did a Great Job as Ahsoka

Of course, the show is called The Mandalorian and this episode had some really great development for Din Djarin. While Mandalorians and Jedi are meant to be ancient enemies, Din trusts the information Bo-Katan gave him and doesn’t seem hesitant at all to side with Ahsoka. Even though many are used to a younger Ahsoka in the animated shows, Ahsoka feels wise here. Which, probably helped in easing any Mandalorian/Jedi tension that would have normally been there. There’s also a nod to Ahsoka’s time as a padawan to Anakin.

What We Learned This Episode

We also learned some critical information about Baby Yoda aka The Child. Learning about Baby Yoda’s background was really eye-opening. AND…we learn his real name! I won’t spoil that, but I’m not sure I’ll get used to calling him that. Either way, this episode was really important for the relationship between the Mandalorian and the Child. There was such a beautiful shot towards the end of the episode and a feeling that maybe one chapter of the story was truly ending. The introduction of Ahsoka and the Child’s story revealed may very well change the course of the show and I hope it does. I think it will be even better for it.

Rating: 4.5/5
