The Mandalorian: Chapter Four ‘Sanctuary’ Review

Face it, Mando, you’re a daddy now.

Okay, that may have sounded wrong, but I don’t think the Mandalorian expected that he would be a father. Despite that, he’s taken his duty as a daddy to baby Yoda seriously. Mando’s dedication to ‘The Child’ previously had him fighting off the Guild and fleeing his base in search of a suitable place for him and his new companion. Mando’s quest brings him to a new planet; for a tribe of people living there, his arrival signifies a blessing in disguise.

Slight Spoilers

‘Sanctuary’ is interesting, not only because we gain more knowledge of the Mandalorians’ belief system; but because we are introduced to the possibility of relationships. While the Mandalorians cannot remove their helmets in front of other people, it doesn’t seem like anything is in place that prevents them from obtaining an emotional bond with someone. We should already know that, considering how much Mando cares for the Child. But, we meet a woman in the village Mando eventually ends up inhabiting, where even outside people suggest Mando settle down with her.

‘Sanctuary’ is also where we meet Gina Carano’s Cara Dune. A former shock trooper, Cara initially dukes it out with Mando. When the two see that neither are a threat, they end up teaming up with each other.

With a tribe of farmers at the mercy of destructive pillagers, it’s up to Mando and Cara to protect them. Think the Magnificent Seven, where the experienced, weathered fighters must teach an almost hopeless group of villagers how to protect themselves. While, at first; it seems helpless, these farmers, led by Omera (played by Julia Jones) eventually are able to stand on their own two feet. Cara does pose the question ‘why doesn’t Mando settle down with Omera?’ but, a Mandalorian’s work is never done. This is the way.

Rating: 4/5

I don’t think we will see Mando with Omera again, but I do hope Cara pops up at some point in this series. She’s a badass character, who definitely could be a beneficial partner to Mando and baby Yoda. ‘Sanctuary’ was directed by Bryce Dallas Howard and I have to give it up for the ladies. Howard directed Chapter Four and Deborah Chow was behind Chapter Three, which are both solid episodes. Great job to the people behind the camera, as well as those in front. Pedro Pascal was perfectly picked for this role.

‘Sanctuary’ gets a 4/5 rating from me.
