Quick Recap
Oh snap! Is love in the air? Even before Flynne and Wilf shared that kiss, there was some sexual tension looming in the air. Even if some of the feelings are due to haptic drift or because the Stub was modeled after his ex, it could benefit them both in the end by having someone who might be willing to protect you if something goes wrong. Especially after seeing that Dr. Nuland is willing to kill those who stand in her way. Dying by way of bee stings is a terrible way to go. Speaking of death, where the hell is Aelita and how is she so elusive? Also, why does she have a complete model of where Flynne lives? There is still so much mystery. What we do know is that polt is short for poltergeist and it’s what they call those who inhabit a Peripheral. We know that between 2032 and 2099 that something catastrophic had and there is a lot fewer people. Also, Corbell Pickett agreed to take 200 thousand dollars in hush money from Burton on a weekly basis to leave them alone. However, the drug-manufacturing old man has instructed his nephew, Jasper to spy on the Fishers to see how and why they have deep pockets all of a sudden. Not to mention, Jasper has yet to learn that Flynne told his wife, Billy Ann everything that is going on. And lastly, Wilf and Aelita are brother and sister and had a rather rough childhood, even after being adopted by Lev’s family.
Episode 4: Jackpot
“We live in a house with three wolves.”
As the situations in 2032 and 2099 become increasingly more dangerous each day, each new episode becomes my new favorite. It looks like my suspicions were somewhat correct, you really can’t trust anyone. This episode provides us with more information as to what is going on and who the players are and it’s just as dark as you’d imagine. This episode is where the pieces are beginning to fall into place. It begins with a 2075 flashback showing us a young Wilf and Aelita struggling to survive but also how close they are. We find out how she is able to allude everyone, but still, no proof that she is alive. The only clue we have is that Dr. Nuland is still looking for her as well. Eventually, Nuland and Lev have a face-to-face and we get our first breakdown as to how the three-tiered 2099 hierarchy operates, but it’s not exactly clear who sits at the top. Is it the Klept Oligarchy, the Met Police, or the RI? As high-stakes panic sweeps through both timelines, Flynne is avoiding going back into the Peripheral and opts for a walk down memory lane. It’s there she finds trust in Wilf for the first time as they discover humanity in one another.
“I’ll get you bodies. Both of you.”
Fully committed to helping and avoiding more assassination attempts, it’s not long before Flynne puts the headset back on. Although, she isn’t the only one to step foot into the future from 2032. Nevertheless, once Flynne returns to London, she is confronted with the disturbing and unnerving truth about the Jackpot through an intensely vivid experience. Just after he makes his own disappointing discovery, Wilf, along with Ash detail the horrific events and when they are to take place. It’s not looking good. This episode is full of tension and suspense as well as a power struggle that is sure to create fireworks very soon. Besides Flynne, it’s looking as if the only person with decent intentions is Wilf, but time will tell
Final Thoughts
I only have a few thoughts this time. Is there a way to stop the Jackpot from happening and is that what one of these 2099 groups attempting to do? What are the true motives of the Klept Oligarchy and the Research Institute? Oh yeah, and looks like shit is about to get real once Flynne is able to get Stubs for Conner and her brother.
New episodes of The Peripheral drop on Fridays only on Prime Video. Stay safe and enjoy.
