The Princess Bride Actor Wallace Shawn Voices Why He Would Be Nervous About a Remake

Some movies are too sacred to be remade. For example, The Princess Bride. When it was originally reported that there had been talks about remaking the classic film, social media was up in arms. Actors and fans gathered around and for once, everyone agreed on something. The Princess Bride should not be remade. On top of every other reason as to why the 1987 movie shouldn’t be rebooted, actor Wallace Shawn expresses backlash from fans as a reason why he’d be nervous to make a new Princess Bride.

Shawn expressed.

“There’s so many fans who loved it exactly as we did it, so I think they’d be angry, maybe. I’d be afraid of them.”

Shawn isn’t the only actor who voiced skepticism. Chris Sarandon had previously voiced:

“I don’t understand why anybody would need to remake [The Princess Bride or The Nightmare Before Christmas], because they are so specific in their effects, They are so iconic in so many ways and have such a cultural imprint, that I don’t see how it can be anything but a disappointment for folks who are fans of the originals, to remake it.”

He added,

“Why remake something that has such a broad appeal? Unless you’re going to do, say, an animated version of Princess Bride, or if you’re going to do a live-action version of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I’ve heard rumors they’re thinking of.”

What do you think? Should they leave The Princess Bride alone?
