Michelle Pfeiffer is one of the most iconic versions of Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. Appearing in 1992 in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, it is strange that we never got Pfeiffer back to reprise her role. Since then, Pfeiffer has gone on to have many roles and Catwoman was reborn a few times in a live-action sense. We had Halle Berry in 2004’s Batman, a performance she earned a Razzie for, Anne Hathaway in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, and Camren Bicondova as a variation of the character in Fox’s Gotham. Still, we always think about the Pfeiffer’s part she played in making Batman Returns one of the best live-action Batman films.

Catwoman at Warners in 1998. Sequel with Michelle Pfeiffer returning. Producer excited. After pitch, exec insisted it needed to be Sarah Michelle Gellar and involve hair-washing scene, then showed me Matrix trailer. #ShareYourRejections

John August, a screenwriter best known for Big Fish, Charlie’s Angels, and Go; shared a potential Catwoman movie he had been working on under the hashtag #ShareYourRejections. In a synopsis you can find here, we can read that we would have gotten a pretty awesome Catwoman spinoff that would have seen the return of Pfeiffer and include Bruce Wayne. We would have explored Selina getting out of Gotham, robbing banks, and from what I can read, it would have had a very film noir feel to it. It’s a shame when scripts with such potential never get to see the light of day and I wonder if we’ll ever get another solo Catwoman movie ever again.
