‘The Suicide Squad’: Idris In/ Will, Joel Out

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”17210″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]It was reported earlier today by THR that Idris Elba has met with James Gunn and that the two hit it off so much that Warner Bros wants him to replace Will Smith as Deadshot. Elba previously portrayed Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but met his fate at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War. Many are unsure why WB is replacing its former Squad members but due to a schedule conflict, Will cannot return as Deadshot. Should WB have recast or should they have simply went with another character? It’s been reported that Gunn’s film will be a soft reboot and not a true sequel to David Ayer’s film.

The only certainty of returning actors from the first film is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. THR also reports that Rick Flag will be in Gunn’s film but Joel Kinnaman will not be returning to the role. With Smith and Kinnaman out is it safe to assume Katana, Captain Boomerang and Killer Croc will all be absent of recast for the film as well?

A report earlier this month indicated that Viola Davis would return as Task Force X leader, Amanda Waller. Davis was for sure one of the best parts of the film and she is a strong actor who Gunn should bring back for sure. Jared Leto who played the Joker has moved on to Morbius and it seems he too is one and done. A damn shame if you ask me because he really should have gotten another shot at playing the role. With Affleck now gone as Batman we as fans will always have a what if, what could have been feeling when it comes to seeing those two in their own film.

There is no denying that Idris Elba is a great actor and he would bring a strong acting presence to DC. I’d love to see him and Davis interact together on screen. I enjoyed Will Smith as Deadshot and Suicide Squad gets a bad rap from a lot of people but I found the film a lot of fun. The cast is what made the film in my opinion and I would have loved to see them return for at least one more film.

There is no denying that the DCEU we knew is slowly fading and a new era of DC films is upon us. Aquaman’s success has led to spin off film, The Trench. Shazam seems to be another hit in the making and social media reactions drop Thursday. Wonder Woman 84 is up next and Birds of Prey is currently filming as well.

It seems like an exciting time for DC and it’s fans but it’s bittersweet for sure.
