‘The Walking Dead’ Could Potentially Run For Another 10 Years!?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5809″ img_size=”600×371″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]Despite the fact that The Walking Dead has been seeing a decrease in viewership in the last couple of seasons and season nine will see the departure of two heavy hitters in the TWD world, AMC says it plans to give us another decade of the show. Ten more years!? Seems a little crazy, but it’s still a popular show, despite the ratings. And considering the cult following the series has, it is reasonable to believe that the studios would not want to let go. For years, we all tuned in to True Blood. Bars had True Blood-themed nights, showed the episodes on TVs, and now the same thing happens to the AMC show. Why would anyone want to lose out on that cash cow?

CEO Josh Sapan went further into the future plans for the show:

“The Walking Dead is a universe…and we have a plan to manage over the next decade, plus. That plan is a careful plan to respect the world of the fans of that world.”

If it is decided to keep The Walking Dead around for the next few years, I believe they should explore spin-off series. With the way the show is going, I don’t believe it has the staying power as long-running shows such as Supernatural and Law & Order: SVU has. But, if the zombie universe wanted to explore further options, I don’t think it would be a bad thing. For instance, a short prequel series exploring more of Rick Grimes family life prior to the apocalypse might be interesting. Or if we wanted to catapult into the future to see what the world looks like ten years after the end of the world? OR an actual EXPLANATION as to why this all happened in the first place, would be very nice.

The Walking Dead season 9 returns October 7th.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
