The Witcher Starts Production on Season Two and Adds Seven New Actors

Production has started for Netflix’s The Witcher season two! The eight-episode first season premiered on the streaming service last year and starred Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Cavill was joined by Anya Chalotra as the powerful Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Based on books and video games of the same name, The Witcher has been praised for its source material accuracy, the storyline, and the epic sword fights.

Along with the returning cast (Joey Batey will return as Jaskier), The Witcher is adding a slew of new actors as well. Here is the cast and who each actor is playing:

Joining the second season are Yasen Atour (Young Wallender) as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen (Fast and Furious 9) as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl) as Lydia, Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Nivellen, and recent graduate Mecia Simson, as Francesca.

Stephen Surjik will direct episodes one and two of the next season. Sarah O’Gorman will direct three and four. Ed Bazalgette will director five and eight. Geeta Patel will direct six and seven.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissich commented:

“The reaction to season one of The Witcher set a high bar for adding new talent for the second season. Sophie Holland and her casting team have once again found the very best people to embody these characters, and in the hands of these accomplished directors, we’re excited to see these new stories come to life.”
