Get ready for ABC’s The Little Mermaid live special event! Originally announced in May 2017 that a live production would be put on by the Wonderful World of Disney banner, the project was later put on hold. With Karey Burke joining ABC last December as the President of Entertainment, the show will go on!
This performance is billed as a “tribute” to the original animated classic and its music. The Little Mermaid Live will feature live musical performances that are interwoven into a broadcast of the original feature film. You will see intricate sets and costumes, as well as songs from both the animated film and the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, which is composed by Alan Menken.
The stars of the upcoming event include Auli’i Cravalho, from Moana; as Ariel, Queen Latifah as Ursula, and Shaggy as Sebastian!
Burke is hopeful that the special will be successful, so that more musicals can start manifesting:
“If it works, I expect we will do more of them and we will work closely with the feature department about timing.”
