Tilda Swinton Explains How Her Role In ‘Endgame’ Was So Important They Filmed It Twice

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”21673″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]By now if you have seen Avengers: Endgame, you know that the Russo’s gave fans a chance to see past characters, during their efforts to retrieve the Infinity Stones. These included Renee Russo as Thor’s Mom, Natalie Portman as Jane, John Slattery as Howard Stark, and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One among others. Swinton’s case was an unusual one as she got to film her scenes not once but twice, and a year apart. She explained her surprise at being called back recently in an interview with IndieWire.

It was a surprise to me, too! And it was a pleasure. But what was a real surprise was, we shot it one summer day, and then over a year later, I went back to reshoot it because a couple of lines had been changed, a couple of plot points had been changed. And there was a tweaking of my costume.

When asked to explain further, she said that it was basically dealing with her explanation to Bruce about the consequences of not returning the stones from whence they came. As she made clear to Bruce, the divergent timeline created could have been catastrophic. Hence the necessity of their prompt return, within the framework of time. Of course, she also said that the directors were trying to refute some of the time travel concepts from films like Back to the Future, which the movie has some fun with.

However, in spite of the crazy schedule and having to re-visit her scene a year later, she enjoyed the work and she thought the result was worth it.

That was amazing, and a whole other world of filmmaking. But, boy, was it worth it. They tweaked it into something extraordinary.

For those of you who have watched the Avengers: End Game, did you enjoy the many returning characters that were interspersed in the film? For those of you who haven’t, What are you waiting for? Go see what will be soon the highest grossing film worldwide of all time. Perhaps we can talk about the Ancient One and her theory about time? Or we can just talk about how cool the final fight scene was. “Avengers Assemble!”
