A gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise, this live-action adventure series follows a group of young superheroes from every corner of the DC Universe as they band together to form one of the most celebrated comic book teams of all time: the Titans. Recruited by Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), the team consists of Starfire (Anna Diop), Superboy (Joshua Orpin), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Raven (Teagan Croft), and more. As they come of age and try to find where they belong, the Titans must defend against supervillains, dark conspiracies, corrupt laboratories, and demonic possessions — across Metropolis and beyond.

For in-depth thoughts on Titans: The Complete Fourth Season, please see reviews from my colleagues Juwaan Carter and Ben Belcher here and here.

    Video Quality

Titans: The Complete Fourth Season arrives on Blu-Ray with a grand AVC encoded 1080p transfer in its original aspect ratio of 2.00:1. The streaming DC shows have always been some of the most impressive visually, and the cinematography continues to provide the series with a cinematic quality that enriches the viewing experience. The detail in this presentation is plentiful, as all of the subtle details in the costumes and production design are easily distinguishable. There are also no egregious instances of aliasing or compression artifacts detectable in this transfer.

The color palette runs on the chilly side with a focus on blues, but there are some instances of dynamic colors leaping off the screen. Highlights are crisp and black levels are deep which allows for an excellent amount of detail in shadows. Skin tones appear natural across the entire cast throughout the season. The special effects are perfectly rendered here which allows you to maintain the illusion of the world. The Blu-Ray presentation sends the series out on a high note.

    Audio Quality

This Blu-Ray comes with an excellent DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that represents the series perfectly. Kinetic sequences dig deep in the mix to deliver some raw power in the low end. Ambient sounds are meticulously placed in the rear channels. The spatial awareness of the track always comes to play, and the panning techniques are deployed with purpose. Dialogue always comes through clearly without being overshadowed by the score or any sound effects. The music from Kevin Kiner continues to major benefit the atmosphere of the series. His work perfectly sets the pace for the story, and it creates a nicely enveloping sound that draws you further into the show. The audio presentation is a winner on all fronts. There are English SDH subtitles provided.

    Special Features

    • Welcome To Metropolis: A five-minute piece in which the cast and crew take a look at the shift in location to Metropolis, how it shakes up the story, balancing the light and the dark, the new faces, the production design, and more.
    • Baptism of Blood: A three-minute featurette that spends time with Joseph Morgan and Specialty Costume Designer Laura Jean Shannon, who discuss the evolution of Sebastian Sanger into Brother Blood and how they went about bringing him to life on screen.
    • Mystical Women: A four-minute exploration of the mystical tomfoolery that Mother Mayhem and Jinx bring to the show this season.

    Final Thoughts

The fourth and final season of Titans finds the series once again struggling to be the best version of itself, especially after the promise of the third season. Although the show has a stacked slate of characters, only a handful of them get storylines befitting their storytelling potential. There are certainly moments that really work and get you excited to keep pressing play on the next episode, but the struggle with consistency is a frustrating experience. We have loved elements of this show over its run and have been irritated by others. Even still, we were always glad it existed, and we will miss having it around to conjure some passionate reactions. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new Blu-Ray with a top-notch A/V presentation and a couple of special features. If you have enjoyed the show up until this point, you should finish out the run.

Titans: The Complete Fourth Season can be purchased directly through MovieZyng or through various other online retailers.
