To the HQ, Batman!

We all know what HQ is. We’re Geeks, it’s in the initiation documents we are required to fill out. HQ stands for headquarters. A lot of heroes have them. A place they can go to research a problem or discuss with other heroes a plan of attack. Superman has his fortress of Solitude, Batman had the Batcave, the Justice League had the Hall of Justice, the Fantastic Four had the Baxter Building, the Avengers had Avengers Mansion. Spider-Man had…his Aunt Mays house? Need to work on that Spidey. So it’s established, we know what HQ is…

However, for this purpose…HQ is the mobile quiz gameshow that gives you the chance in around 15 minutes to prove your smarts and split some cash. I was introduced to this by my wife. She explained the premise and I am sure I had the same questions most of you would have. How much does this cost? Is the money you win real? How do you access your winnings? (Although this question has really not been necessary to answer since my winnings have been meager to say the least).

She answered all my questions and told me to download the HQ app. Just as she said, it WAS free and she asked me to sign in using her ID as my reference. You see, you get extra lives by getting your friends to sign in and play using your ID as a reference. I KNEW IT! It was a scheme alright, a scheme to get HER an extra life. Great Scott the girl is clever.

Since we’re talking about extra lives, they do come in handy. If you miss a question, and you have an extra life, you can use it to get back into the game. You can only use one per game and not on the last question. Seeing how I have few friends, that avenue for extra lives is kind of closed off for me but they have created other ways. They have made it if you play five straight days you will get an extra life.

So how do you play? That part is easy. It is a multiple choice question, you just select one of the three answers by tapping it. There are no take backs however. If you press the wrong one by accident you are out of luck, unless you have the aforementioned extra life. My wife for example, when asked which sport used which piece of safety equipment, she accidentally tapped a “basketball helmet.” Man, what neighborhood is SHE playing basketball in. To be fair though, 47,000 other people also said that. What??? There are 12 questions to answer, ranging from easy to hard and the usual amount split is $5000.00. It sounds like a lot but when you have to split it many ways, it usually isn’t that much. (On a side note – they played for $25,000 tonight and the winners take was $138.98. Not bad for 15-20 minutes worth of work) The usual example is more like this: your author  has personally won HQ twice for the grand total of…wait for it…$1.00. I know what you are thinking…how can anybody be THAT lucky. The only thing left to decide is how I’m going to spend my windfall. Perhaps I need to meet with other heroes at the HQ to decide?
