Todd Phillips: Upcoming Joker Movie Doesn’t Follow the Comics

Geek Vibes Joker

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”12890″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]We’re so close to the premiere of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie. While it should have been pretty obvious from the trailer that this film is taking creative liberties, it seems this Joker will completely deviate from the comics. That’s to say, it seems like Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese simply wanted to make a movie about what would lead up to a man becoming someone like the Joker. They weren’t concerned with playing by the comic book rules, which makes sense. The Joker is all about breaking rules; why would he be confined to them in his own movie?

Phillips exclusively told Empire magazine:

“We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.”

Phillips then added about the decision to bring Joaquin Phoenix in for the role:

“I think he’s the greatest actor. We had a photo of him above our computer while we were writing. We constantly thought, ‘God, imagine if Joaquin actually does this.’”

Are you excited about the upcoming Joker movie? Will you be able to watch the film for what it is or will the deviation from the comics sway your judgment?
