A menacing black figure with a large mouth full of sharp teeth, white eyes, and a muscular build is depicted against a dark background.

While the first solo Venom film has yet to come out, we’re finding out that Tom Hardy has signed on to lead two more films, making it a trilogy. The future of the Venom franchise does depend on how well it does in the theaters, but in an interview with Screen Rant, Hardy opened up about being under contract for more films centering around Eddie Brock.

“I’m open to whatever you want to do with it. We’ve signed up for three of them. So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them. It’s an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were. We all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”

The climate around the Venom movie has been a rocky one. When the first trailer for the Sony film dropped, people were less enthused. Now, hype for the movie has steadily risen, but there are still skeptics. A lot is riding on this film; how well it does determines the future of Venom, the Spiderverse, and essentially the fate of Sony itself.

    Venom premieres October 5, 2018.
