Top 10 Most Anticipated Films in 2020

The year 2020 is only days away. We’ve had some really great movies in 2019 and 2020 promises the same. We’ve listed ten of the most anticipated movies of 2020!

Wonder Woman 1984

There are plenty of superhero films coming out in 2020 and one of the most anticipated is Wonder Woman 1984. The sequel to the hit Wonder Woman movie reunites director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot. Set in the popular 1980s, Diana Prince will not only deal with Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), but her dead lover Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) coming back to life. The first official trailer has me very excited and we can all see why the wait will be worth it.

Black Widow

Every year brings a new set of Marvel films. Black Widow will kick off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is Scarlett Johansson’s first solo movie in the MCU and will explore the time between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Starring Johansson, Rachel Weiss, Florence Pugh, and David Harbour, this Russian mashup will explore the Red Room and Taskmaster. Sign me up for first in line for Black Widow!

Birds of Prey

And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn! This rated-R DC film is the first all female superhero team up! Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is fresh off a breakup from the Joker and finds herself teaming up with the Birds of Prey. They will have to face off against Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask. We look forward to Cathy Yan’s fun adventure and to seeing some seriously badass ladies team-up. Birds of Prey also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ella Jay Basco, and Rosie Perez.

No Time to Die

No Time to Die is the 25th James Bond movie and Daniel Craig’s last venture as 007. Léa Seydoux will reprise her role from Spectre and Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas join the cast. Rami Malek will play the lead. We’re looking forward to Bond’s next venture because not only is Craig a great Bond, but Lynch will kick ass as another ’00 agent who takes an active role as Bond is in semi-retirement.

Top Gun: Maverick

The sequel to the popular Top Gun movie from 1986, Tom Cruise will return as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Pete will be training a new generation of pilots for this sure-to-be crazy adventure. Not only are we excited because it’s a sequel to an incredibly popular film, but because you know Cruise did his own stunts. It’s time to aim for the sky in Top Gun: Maverick.

Tenet

Why wouldn’t we be excited for Tenet? Director Christopher Nolan is a master filmmaker and each of his films leave us as the audience wanting more. And very confused. Tenet promises all of that and more. Starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, Tenet looks to involve time travel and other mind-warping aspects. The trailer that was just released still perplexes me and that is what I expect from a Nolan film.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Who you gonna call? The Ghostbusters, of course! The recent trailer for Afterlife felt like Ghostbusters, Stranger Things, and the Sandlot all wrapped into one movie. Which, makes it seem like the perfect film-watching experience. Plus, it has Paul Rudd in it, so what’s not to like? The upcoming Ghostbusters movie looks like a new take on a familiar franchise and we are pumped for it.

Godzilla vs Kong

It’s the monster duel of the century! Seriously, what is better than Godzilla and King Kong? A movie where Godzilla dukes it out against King Kong. This film will feature the King Kong from 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and the Godzilla from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Long-time fans of these franchises may have to wait until November of 2020, but it will certainly be one of the main events of the year!

The Invisible Man

This is a personal pick from myself. As a fan of old, literary horror icons, I am ecstatic for the upcoming The Invisible Man movie. The trailer for this upcoming film looked so good that it made me realize what everyone else sees in Elizabeth Moss. I love the direction that the movie is going – that Moss plays an abuse victim and while the rest of the world thinks her abusive boyfriend is dead, she knows something sinister is going on. It’s a literal nightmare for Moss and I can’t wait to be on the edge of my seat for this one.

Venom 2

The sequel to 2018’s Venom may not be on everyone’s most anticipated 2020 movie list, but it’s on mine. Not only is Tom Hardy returning, but it will be interesting to see where this movie goes. Venom needed some improvement, so we will see if Venom 2 makes those improvements. Plus, Woody Harrelson will come in to play Carnage and it’ll be great to see Harrelson’s Carnage against Hardy’s Venom. If we could get a cameo from Tom Holland that would be even better.

What’s your most anticipated film for 2020?
