Bryan Cranston is not retiring at 70, just reflecting

You know you’re a pretty big deal when rumors spin out of control about the end of your career, much like it has done with Bryan Cranston. That’s why it’s also a big deal he corrected those rumors. Evidently, his impending retirement from acting isn’t happening so fast.

Cranston, 67, discovered social media was going berserk with the thought of him retiring from his gig. Unfortunately, some quotes leave room for inference. That’s when the rumor mill spun right off its axle and landed the guy in a ditch.

British GQ magazine interviewed the Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle star for a cover story. That’s the source of a quote Cranston had to tweak so his fans don’t revolt.

What had happened was Bryan Cranston turns 70 in three years. At that time, he would like to reflect upon his career, You know? Spend more time with his wife and enjoy the fruits of his labor. Like, those from acting and selling his half of “Dos Hombres,” the mezcal company he shares with his former co-star Aaron Paul.

Unfortunately, UK and US pubs ran off with an ender in mind. They took a smidge of that cover story article and took off. Then, we read printed headlines like “Bryan Cranston reveals plans to retire from acting in 2026 for wife.“

Following the onslaught of errant DMs, concerning text messages, and grandiose tabloid reports, the veteran actor takes to Instagram to kibosh the rumors of his sunset. Essentially, 2026 is the year of a “reset” for Bryan Cranston, not a rewind. He’s considering a return to TV or the stage. Most importantly, a return to a more civil lifestyle with his wife, who–as anyone can read in his thoughts–deserves that much.

“For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail. She’s been the plus one, she’s been the wife of a celebrity. She’s had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine,” he said. “She has tremendous benefit from it, but we’re uneven. I want to level that out. She deserves it.”

Below is Bryan Cranston’s rebuttal to those rumors via his Instagram page. There is also the underline of “hitting the pause button, not retiring.” Let’s read his words and take them at face value. We are fairly certain he deserves that.

Since he saw ‘Dune’ in the $1 movie theater as a kid, this guy has been a lover of geek culture. It wasn’t until he became a professional copywriter, ghostwriter, and speechwriter that he began to write about it (a lot).

From the gravitas of the Sith, the genius of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, or the gluttony of today’s comic fan, SPW digs intelligent debate about entertainment. He’s also addicted to listicles, storytelling, useless trivia, and the Oxford comma. And, he prefers his puns intended.
