Jason Dohring, who actually played Chase Graves in iZombie for two seasons; will return to his Veronica Mars characters later this month. After three seasons, books, and a movie in 2014, fans are getting a fourth season on Hulu. It’s been a long time since high school and we’re going to see a different Veronica and Logan than what we saw in the original show and even the movie.

Veronica and Logan, as a couple; are going strong. They live together and have a dog. We will Veronica wondering, though; if settling down with Logan and if the P.I. lifestyle is what she actually wants. Creator Rob Thomas delved into this crossroads turmoil Veronica will be dealing with:

“I was interested in telling the sort of story that is usually reserved for men for Veronica. You see a lot of stories about men in their 30s, you know, trying to decide whether commitment, marriage, kids, mortgage, is the path that they want to take or if they want their freedom. And I wanted to tell that story with Veronica. I wanted her struggling with those issues.”

Dohring also commented on Veronica’s stance in life for season four:

“She kind of finds herself in place in her life where she might not be moving forward, or taking the next move. And [Logan is] sort of gently — otherwise, you’ll ruffle her feathers — but sort of trying to figure that out. And then, you know, the drama with that as well.”

Thomas added:

“Yeah, Logan has a much clearer vision of what he wants out of life than Veronica does, and that’s a big element in the eight-episode story we’re telling.”

On the flip side, we have Dohring playing a more mature version of Logan than we’re used to. The actor explains how it was adjusting to this Logan that is not impulsive or brooding:

“I love playing the bad guy. That’s always been my thing. I think there’s more freedom and as an actor, you get to do all these bad things with no liability. I found it confusing [playing the good guy] the very first time, when I’m like, ‘What do I do? I be a good guy, that’s it?'”

In the end, though; Dohring saw the positives of this character change. He explained, in relationship to having scenes with Wallace and Keith:

“Yeah, I think it starts off in a place where we can be friends. Because on the [original] show I would never particularly treat Veronica as well as maybe people would like that to happen. So, that’s the grownup nature [of the new Logan], which requires scenes with characters that I would never participate in beforehand. So, it’s good to be the good guy.”

You can catch the first three season of Veronica Mars on Hulu. Season four will hit July 26th.
