Warner Bros. Moving On From Superman, Will Focus On Supergirl

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5647″ img_size=”1200×624″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]There is no question that we are now in a female superhero lead era with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Birds of Prey plus the Scarlett Johansson Black Widow film. These are just a few examples of female led films in development but do not include plans for a Black Cat film from Sony, a potential Vixen film from DC, and now we have reports that with Henry Cavill most likely being out as Superman, (take a moment to cry if you need to) Warner Bros and DC are going all in with a solo Supergirl franchise.

According to the report from THR earlier today, Warner Bros is going to focus on a teenage Supergirl origin film. Since Supergirl is a teenager this would potentially exclude Superman since he would still be an infant or very young depending on the story. If talks happen to work out with Cavill and Warner Bros. then maybe we would see him make an appearance. Oren Uziel has been hired to write the script for the film but no other information has been released at this time. Currently Supergirl is portrayed on CW by Melissa Benoist but WB has been known to not allow the shows to include characters that are part of the film franchise. WB has made exceptions though since they allowed CW to cast Tyler Hoechlin as Superman for a few episodes of Supergirl. Would going ahead with the Supergirl film compromise the TV show? I doubt it but it is something to look out for.

If Cavill really has walked out and there is no chance for a deal then we would see WB move on Supergirl rather quickly with a director and even casting. WB has Aquaman and Shazam coming out soon as well as the standalone Joker film which is currently in production. Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey is set for production in January and we are still waiting on the Matt Reeve’s Batman news as well as Flash.
