Westworld Season Three’s Timeline Will Be Less Confusing Than Season Two; Hosts in for a “Culture Shock”

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”26628″ img_size=”800×533″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]While I personally enjoyed the second season of Westworld, the sophomore year of HBO’s hit-show confused many viewers. The direction of the third season already looks to be different than the last one. We saw in the previously released teaser that Aaron Paul will be a main center point for the show. It certainly looks less Westworld and maybe more Future World?

One big change is the storyline confusion. Season two was meant to be purposely confusing, but it didn’t gravitate to everyone. The co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan assured fans:

“This is season is a little less of a guessing game and more of an experience with the hosts finally getting to meet their makers.”

Nolan added:

“I love shows that find a groove and hang with it for 100 episodes — that was never this show. We always wanted every season to find our characters in radically different circumstances. And with a cast this talented, watching the metamorphosis of all these characters is one of the most fun parts.”

We know for sure that Dolores is back, but considering the events of season two’s finale, the showrunners are keeping tight-lipped about who is returning. Some information, though; was revealed about Paul’s character. Paul plays Caleb, a construction worker in Los Angeles who will have a strong impact on Dolores. We saw the hosts do everything in their power to leave the island of Westworld and be out in the real world with the humans. But, not everything is how they imagined it and the hosts are in for a culture shock.

Nolan explained:

“Aaron’s character will challenge Dolores’ notions about the nature of humanity. He’s the type of person who doesn’t get to go to Westworld.”

Season three will pick up where season two left off, after the aftermath of the massacre in the park. Since the show will take place outside of the island that we’ve all gotten accustomed to, Nolan was asked about the title of the show. After all, the whole point was that it was an old-time Western theme. We saw a few other parks in season two, but the show still largely took place in Westworld.

Nolan explained:

“Part of the story plays out in the Western United States, and that’s a thematic through-line in the show — the American West as a setting and an ethos. The idea of the West as a wild place, where just over the next hill or horizon there are no rules. On that thematic level, Dolores emerges to figure out what happened to the real West. And the answer is: We paved the thing over, and civilization eventually caught up with all those people who were running away from it.”

Westworld will return in 2020.
