Crash games are fast-paced, real-time online gambling games where players need to bet on a rising multiplier and must manually cash out before the game crashes and they lose their stake. If they exit in time, they win their stake multiplied by the current figure, but it’s a race against the clock and adrenaline to get out just in time.

When thinking of crash games, many gamers would automatically think of platforming and action games like Crash Bandicoot or maybe one of the classic demolition derby games like Wreckfest or BeamNG.Drive. However, there’s a new kid on the block in the world of crash games that’s been gaining popularity globally in online casinos.

Crash games like aviator have been making waves in the online iGaming world, becoming the latest big trend for those who love fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled iGaming experiences. Their simplicity is part of what makes these games so appealing to such a broad market, because they don’t require any skill or previous experience to participate in and enjoy.

How Do These Crash Games Work?

The mechanics behind online crash games like Aviator are fairly simple and easy to understand. The core premise behind the game is that a rising multiplier, beginning at zero, will slowly begin to rise and, at some unexpected point, will then crash.

You choose a stake before the game begins and watch it multiply as the round progresses. The point of the game is for you to cash out before the multiplier randomly crashes. If you manage to get out in time, you win your stake multiplied by the current value, but if you don’t, you lose it entirely.

The multiplier can be represented as:

    • A plane, as in the Aviator game
    • A jet
    • A rocket

The little red plane in Aviator will slowly ascend the sky as the multiplier rises and then unexpectedly fly off, taking your stake with it if you didn’t manage to cash out in time.

So basically, the gameplay unfolds as follows:

    • You place a bet before the game begins
    • An icon begins to slowly ascend or move forward
    • As the icon ascends, the multiplier number climbs rapidly from 1x  your bet upwards.
    • You need to decide when to cash out.

It sounds simple enough but when you’re sitting there with your finger hovering over the cash out button, trying to decide when to click, it becomes the most confusing thing in the world.

What Makes These Games So Popular?

Crash games are popular for a variety of reasons. Their mechanics are probably one of the biggest draws for many players, especially those who are new to the world of online casinos and may find the other, more rule-based games intimidating.

    Inclusivity

What makes crash games like Aviator so inclusive is that it doesn’t matter if you’re playing your first game or your hundredth game; everyone is on a level playing field when it comes to win potential.

    Speed

A round of Aviator only lasts around 10 seconds, meaning they don’t require a significant time commitment. You also don’t need to sit around waiting for a new round to start and can jump in almost immediately and leave whenever you want. This makes them an ideal option for when you only have a few minutes to spare, like:

    • Between meetings
    • During a commute
    • During your lunch break

    Visual Appeal

Crash games come with a sense of nostalgia because they are designed with retro aesthetics reminiscent of old-school video games that many people enjoyed growing up. The inclusion of animated gameplay as opposed to just numbers also makes these games feel more engaging and interactive.

Why People Enjoy Crash Games So Much

There are actually several underlying psychological mechanisms at play that can be credited for the rising popularity of crash games. These games aren’t appealing just by chance, because they’ve been intentionally designed that way.

Their immense appeal is driven by a few distinct psychological, finctional and social mechanisms, including:

    • The illusion of control
    • Variable ratio reinforcement
    • Adrenaline and psychological tension
    • FOMO resulting from the social features

While these games are enjoyable, it’s also important to bear in mind that they are drawing on these psychological mechanisms to keep you engaged.

An Adrenaline Rush That Fits Into Your Busy Schedule

People who enjoy hobbies that are thrilling and can induce a rush of adrenaline may find these games are a great way to get a little burst of adrenaline during a busy or mundane day. Modern living has made people so busy that they don’t always have time to take a break and do things that they enjoy.

On-the-go and mobile-optimized entertainment options like the Aviator game are filling that gap by giving people something that works easily into their busy schedule. The fast-paced gameplay, simple mechanics and quick rounds are part of what makes these crash games so globally appreciated and they will likely continue to grow in popularity.
