The latest Game of Thrones (GOT) series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has just recently concluded, and now fans are eagerly turning their attention to what future projects may be on the horizon.

Since the original show ended in May 2019, there have been a total of two spin-off shows released as of early 2026 (House of the Dragon and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms). There are also several more shows that are rumoured to be in development, including 10,000 Ships.

It’s not just TV shows that GOT fans can get excited about, either. Outside of the original book series, there is also a collection of comic books, video games such as Game of Thrones: Kingsroad on mobile, and there is even a GOT Bingo and slot game that you can play using slots with a sign-up bonus.

In this article, we can explore why fans are seeking out more forms of Game of Thrones-related media and types of projects we can expect in the future.

Game of Thrones Fans – Desperate for More?

Addressing the elephant in the room, a large part of why fans may be so eager to find more GOT content is because of the disappointment of the final season of the original HBO show.

Both critics and fans alike complained that it had a very rushed six-episode structure that contained plots that were hard to follow and that it had unsatisfying conclusions to the protagonists’ arcs. Disappointment was so huge that there was a viral petition with over a million signatures to try to remake the season.

This may be a reason why the GOT spin-off shows have been so popular in the last few years, as fans are trying to find new media that can make up for the lacklustre final season.

There is also the fact that the writer of the original book series, George RR Martin, famously takes an incredibly long time to release a new book, leaving fans starved for new stories for years.

In fact, there are still two novels yet to be released in the A Song of Ice and Fire series: The Winds of Winter (book 6) and A Dream of Spring (book 7). With no confirmed release date for the conclusion to the books, GOT fans have had to get their fix in other areas, such as video games and spin-off shows.

What News Do We Have About GOT Spinoff Shows

HBO has announced that there are several shows set within the GOT universe in development. This includes prequel series and animated spin-offs.

For example, 10,000 Ships is set 1000 years before the original GOT series, and is about Queen Nymeria leading a fleet of 10,000 ships to found the Kingdom of Dorne. It is being written by playwright Eboni Booth.

There are also rumours of an animated project, The Sea Snake, which has animator Genndy Tartakovsky attached, and a potential feature film called Aegon’s Conquest, giving fans plenty to look forward to.
