Avengers: Age of Ultron was admittedly not my favorite film. It was one of the poorer executed Marvel films and that’s all I’ll say about it. However, this episode of What If…? does showcase how dangerous something (someone?) like Ultron can be if things had been in his favor. We don’t need to wonder what would have happened if Ultron won now that this episode is out. And frankly, the scenario is terrifying.

I mean, in what world (I’m sure the comics – I’m talking about the MCU) is Ultron more terrifying than Thanos? Admittedly, I did laugh a little when Ultron made quick work of Thanos, but it made me realize that this cartoon version of Ultron really showcased how powerful this character is. And how the film didn’t do it justice at all.
In many ways, this episode was just a prelude to the season finale. It felt less like an episode and more like a prologue. There’s nothing wrong with that – we’ll clearly see what will happen next episode. What this episode did do was show that everything we’ve seen in season one isn’t for nothing. It was in fact building up to something, so I am looking forward to that.

As a massive Black Widow fan, I did enjoy her involvement in this episode. I also liked seeing the Watcher finally get a piece of the action and I enjoyed little scenes here and there. Carol Danvers fighting Ultron, the shifts between the multiverses (especially the one where Steve Rogers is being sworn in as president), and others. If this was a movie, this episode would be the first ten minutes of a film. So, I don’t have too much to say, other than I see Ultron in a different light now. Well, at least this one.
