Why Do We Love Batman So Much?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”29885″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]It’s Batman Day and the Caped Crusader has been around for 80 years, since 1939. No matter how many superheroes have come into the picture or how many comic book outlets have cranked out characters, Bruce Wayne’s alter ego has continued to be one of the most popular. Not only that, but one of the most well-known. Throughout the country and the world, almost everyone knows who Batman is. There’s been countless live-action variations of this character and soon, we’ll get another with Robert Pattinson.

Who is Batman?

This begs the question, why do people love Batman so much? On the surface, Bruce Wayne is a billionaire with endless amounts of funds, access to the best technology, and doesn’t need to have superpowers because he’s rich. Doesn’t necessarily sound like the underdog story that we enjoy so much from other superheroes. There’s not many of us who can relate to someone with endless money.

Except, Batman is more than that. Bruce Wayne, at the center of everything; who is someone who made a dark space for himself after witnessing his parents die. Despite looking like a privileged person on the outside, he is carrying an unbelievable tragedy on his shoulders. One that has affected him so deeply that he felt he needed to take justice in his own hands. Bruce saw that Gotham could not take care of its crime problem on its own and decided something needed to be down. We see corruption all the time. Whether it’s on the streets or on the news, it’s there. Anyone who has had a tragedy bestowed on them and felt like nothing was being done to rectify it can relate to Bruce Wayne deciding enough was enough.

How to People Relate?

What’s another reason people absolutely love Batman? A superhero with no superpowers? The fact that he is unafraid to go against heroes like Superman and other members of the Justice League – all who should be able to run circles around him. Not to mention, Batman is a loner, but people want to gravitate around them. So many outsiders feel they need to change themselves in order to have friends, but Batman is literally surrounded by dozens of heroes who see him as their equals. Heroes like Wonder Woman and the Flash.

Aesthetically, too; people love Batman. Dressed in all black, always mysterious, and hiding in dark shadows – people are drawn to that kind of mystery. The fact that Batman does not dress himself in bright colors – he should be hard to notice, but people always have their eyes locked on him. Not to mention, Batman’s rogue gallery includes some of the best villains the DC and other comic book universes have ever seen.

There are plenty of reasons to love Batman and we want to hear yours![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
