Who hasn’t waited years to see the X-Men interact with the Avengers? This is every geek’s dream. Unfortunately, though; there seems to be a problem or two. The first is that Kevin Feige has expressed that they’ve already laid out Phase Four and that it might be a couple of years before we see the likes of Wolverine or Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The other is that we’ve had about 22 films in the MCU. There’s never once been a mention of people with mutant powers. Sure, Avengers: Age of Ultron sort of made their own “mutants” by calling Wanda and Pietro Maximoff “enhanced”. They weren’t mutants though. Just like Rhodey asked Captain Marvel where has she been all this time, the question would be: where have the mutants been all this time?
It is possible to say that with the events of Infinity War and Endgame that mutations suddenly manifested. With all the “snaps” and time travel, something could have changed up. People with the mutant gene could have started developing powers. That would seem to be a logical explanation. But, how would you then explain characters like Professor X, Magneto, and Wolverine? All three of their stories largely have to do with the decades they came from and the time they have built upon.
My personal theory is (and I have not seen the movie, so these aren’t spoilers) that if Mysterio’s claims are right in Spider-Man: Far From Home, there’s a multitude of dimensions. You could have that there is an Earth that mutants do exist and have existed on for some time. Same thing with the Fantastic Four.
You could also have that people like Nick Fury knew of the existence of mutants. Like he knew about Captain Marvel. The only difference is that Carol Danvers had adventures in space. It’s much more plausible to say that she was absent for all of the MCU events due to being in space. But, where have the X-Men been?
How do you think the mutants can be integrated into the MCU? Let us know!
