When Sony’s new version of God of War was released, everyone was duly impressed and critics viewed it very favorably. However, there’s at least one person who hasn’t been in any particular rush to see what all the fuss was about. That person was the director of the original God of War that debuted on the PlayStation 2, David Jaffe.
During the “hayday” of PlayStation 2, Jaffe worked on a number of popular Sony franchises, including Twisted Metal. He also worked on the original God of War which started the franchise off with great graphics and gameplay, and became so popular that it lead to some well received sequels.
However, with the release of the PlayStation 4 new version, Jaffe recently admitted that he hasn’t played the newest God of War. This made some players question whether he hated the updated reboot. Jaffe was quick to point out that it wasn’t the case at all but he did give an anology for why he hasn’t played it on his Twitter account.
I haven't played the new GOD OF WAR; no desire to. Not because I don't think I'd love it, but because it feels like going out to dinner with a girl you used to be crazy about (that you ARE over, but deep down you will always love) and her hot, rich, way cooler, new boyfriend. https://t.co/j7H7LeB35Y

This prompted another question whether or not he likes good games which was followed with a humorous response from Jaffe.
Hate them. They smell like leather and feet.

With all of that said, Jaffe tried to make it clear that he had no bitterness towards Cory [Barlog]. In fact, he was proud of the job the new team had done.
“Bitter? Not at all,” he noted on Twitter. “I’m quite happy for Cory and the Santa Monica team. I think without the change, GOD OF WAR would be on its way to being a dead franchise. I love they reinvented it.”
Perhaps, one day, Jaffe will play the new game and see how his game has evolved since his time on it. Do you think Jaffe is being sincere when he explains his reluctance to play the game?
