Wonder Woman Writer Allan Heinberg Developing A Female Led Superhero Series For ABC

With the recent release of the Captain Marvel trailer and the success of DC’s Wonder Woman, female lead Superhero properties are being promoted to take advantage of the increasing interest in these stories. With that in mind, Variety reports that Marvel Television is developing a female-led superhero series for ABC.

This new series, that is being tackled by Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg, has already received a production commitment from the network. The yet unnamed series will be produced by Marvel TV and ABC Studios with Heinberg serving as executive producer along with the Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb.

In these early stages, plot details remain under wraps but this will be the fourth Marvel series to air on ABC.  Following previous shows, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which is currently in production for its sixth season and premiering in the summer of 2019, Agent Carter (two seasonsand Inhumans which was canceled after its first season.

This news comes on the heels of the recent release that Disney is developing new standalone series for its Disney Play streaming service featuring select heroes of the MCU. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige will be producing these highly anticipated new series that will include characters such as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.

The fact that ABC has gotten the greenlight to proceed with this new female lead series, perhaps means that Marvel Television is not quite on the way out as has been projected by some with the new Marvel shows coming to Play Disney. Of course, the success of this new show may go along way in deciding the fate of future Marvel Television projects for better or for worse. Thus far of ABC’s Marvel shows, only Agents of Shield has lasted long enough thus far to qualify for syndication (100 episodes).
