X-Men: Dark Phoenix Changed Its Third Act Because Ending Was Similar to Another Superhero Movie

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”6448″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]All eyes seem to be on X-Men: Dark Phoenix as Fox’s last outing in the Marvel realm since the merger with Disney. When you go to see the film, it should be noted that there were apparently some significant reshoots, according to Collider. In April it was revealed that the ending was changed in these reshoots from [spoilers] a space setting to instead, a plotline that sees our X-Men kidnapped and onboard a military train.

James McAvoy, who plays Charles Xavier; revealed that the reason why the ending was changed was due to the similarities it had to another superhero film:

“The end [of Dark Phoenix] changed a hell of a lot. The finale had to change. There was a lot of overlap and parallels with another superhero movie that came out re—a while ago. And we had no idea that we were…”

You’ll notice that McAvoy almost said “recently” but decided to exclude that word out, but The Playlist decided that the movie that he must be talking about is either Captain Marvel, Thor: Ragnarok, or Avengers: Infinity War – although they’re pretty sure it’s Captain Marvel. The case for this could be made since the Dark Phoenix’s design was changed from more of a “flame” look to a cosmic one, which could be the case considering Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel seems to have a very “flamey” look to her at the end of her movie.

We’ll see how those changes in the third act play out, which X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7.
