Part one of Netflix’s You already broke away from the usual mold by having Joe across the seas and actually not becoming obsessed with a woman, which usually leads to death. In my review for part one, I was really happy about the change of pace. And while I pondered the need to split up season four in two parts, I can say that part two is like a completely different season. We’re really in uncharted territory in part two, though; there’s a lot more familiarity in this part than the previous one.
Part Two is Insane
I’ve really been liking the change of pace, but wow I was not expecting everything that happened in part two. There’s so much to contend with in part two and I really enjoy seeing Joe dealing with someone who can rival him. Be prepared for shock and awe, as well as several callbacks from the previous seasons. While we’ve seen ghosts of the past before, this season really leans heavily into the trippy side of things.

There’s a lot going on in part two and while it makes for an explosive part two, I do wish that we could have had a lot of these points stretched out into a fuller season. In reality, part one of You really didn’t need to be as long as it was – seeing both parts have made me think that we could have just condensed part one into one or two episodes, while having the season rely heavily on the story we’re told in season two. I always wonder how this show has managed to make a pretty one-dimensional concept into a multi-season show. Well, it keeps reinventing the wheel and the end of this part shows that we’re going in a direction where we can never turn back from.
Penn Bagdley Continues to Do What He Does Best
Penn Bagdley continues to give a riveting portrayal of Joe in this show. While he’s done some truly despicable things in the show, it’s really interesting to always watch the show through his eyes. To see what he’s going through and honestly, I was shocked with where his character ended up. I now could not imagine the show not getting picked up for another season, because part two ends on a huge cliffhanger.
The great thing about part two is that it continues to be a bit of a murder mystery, but the answer to the questions are not black and white.

I do have to mention the character Rhys – I mentioned before that Joe has found his equal and I suppose that, in this world; we shouldn’t think Joe is the only unstable one. I don’t think we’ve seen anyone be able to match Joe quite like Love did, but Rhys is a great substitution. Joe is incredibly left offbalanced and it’s a real treat to watch – I’m not going to feel sympathy for Joe, considering everything he’s done. So, everything that happens to him is almost poetic justice.
Rating: 9/10
I don’t want to ruin the end of the show – it just came out today and I think spoiling the end wouldn’t be right. Just know that my jaw was on the floor when it happened. It’s certainly an interesting direction to take the show – it could be brilliant, but it could also be the show’s downfall. Shows often have to strive for something outrageous in order to keep the story going and this could very well be it. Granted, if written and acted correctly, it could be the change this show needs. Only time will tell. But, either way; what a shocker.
Part two of You is on Netflix now!
