Leave it to “the Rock” to make a person doubt themselves, at least in comparison to the behemoth. While appearing at Baltimore Comic-Con, Zachary Levi’s explained his hesitation when he tried out for a role in the upcoming Shazam! Movie. At that time, Dwayne Johnson had already been selected for the Black Adam role. When you look at the Rock, for some reason, you might tend to feel a bit inadequate. With that in mind, Levi auditioned for a supporting character instead, thinking Warner Bros. and New Line wanted someone to match Johnson’s physique and unquestioned star power.
I put myself on tape for this other role and the director, producers, and the studio saw it,” Levi said. “And they hadn’t cast their Shazam yet and they said ‘We think that could be our Shazam.
In retrospect, Levi compared his situation to that of Billy Batson. In the movie, Billy was someone who didn’t believe in himself until he was chosen for the opportunity to BE Shazam!
I feel like in the same way the Wizard sees in Billy Batson the character that is necessary to be Captain Marvel, Shazam,” Levi said. “I feel like New Line and my director and producers saw in me the character necessary to be this character.”
Since Levi brought up the Black Adam, he was asked about where things were as far as the possible Black Adam solo film. The film has been seemingly in development for a while now with no real news. In addition, he was asked about the prospect of taking on The Rock’s Black Adam on screen.
I don’t know when they’re going to make that standalone live-action movie but I know that’s the plan,” explained Levi. “I hope that eventually Shazam and Black Adam get to fight each other because I’d like to kick The Rock’s ass. Because that’s what would happen, right?
You see? You throw a red suit on a guy with a lightning bolt on their chest and suddenly, they think they can take on the man called “The Rock.” Zachary has always had a great sense of humor and whether that confrontation will happen anytime soon is still up in the air. However, I’m pretty sure the Rock is not losing any sleep worrying about it as he is probably busy making 100 movies at one time.
Shazam! Starring Asher Angel and Zachary Levi will be hitting theaters April 5th, 2019.
Do you hope that Black Adam will someday soon see production, whenever the Rock finds some time to slide it in between all his other projects. How do you think the battle between Shazam! And Black Adam would go? Time to be the Fight Doctor (with apologies to Dr. “Ferdie” Pacheco) here at GVNation.
