Zack Snyder Will Produce ‘The Suicide Squad’ as James Gunn Directs

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”14554″ img_size=”800×334″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Suicide Squad 2 (dubbed The Suicide Squad) is bringing in some heavy hitters with James Gunn as the director for the film and Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder as the producers, along with Charles Roven and Peter Safran. Gunn was let go by Marvel last year and he will surely bring his style of the Guardians of the Galaxy to the suicide Squad project; who you could argue is the DCEU’s version of the GotG. Misfits that no one has confidence in saving the world to the backdrop of a killer soundtrack? Yea, Gunn could do a lot here.

DC fans will surely be happy to see their beloved Snyder back into the DCEU arena after having to step away from Justice League, prompting fans since the movie’s release to “release the Snyder Cut.” While we are not sure that will ever happen, at least he is backing a new DC project and considering the mixed review for the first Suicide Squad (which I actually liked), this is a good decision.

While Gunn was only originally meant to solely write the film, he’s been brought in to direct. An announcement in which DC Daily host Tiffany Smith commented on:

“It’s official that we have got a new member of the DC family: acclaimed writer/director James Gunn has been attached to write Suicide Squad 2. Gunn is poised to bring a completely fresh take to the franchise after the first film was written and directed by David Ayer.”

The only thing that has me a little uneasy is that this upcoming film is not being regarded as a sequel rather as a relaunch. There were certain aspects about the first film that surely could be trimmed away but actors such as Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney have all been training for their return. Margot Robbie is still Harley Quinn, but is possibly sticking to Birds of Prey instead of returning to Suicide Squad and considering Jared Leto will be in Sony’s Morbius and Joaquin Phoenix is another Joker from a different timeline, it’s almost safe to say that Let won’t reprise his role? We’ll have to see how it plays out, but I do hope Gunn decides to bring at least some of the cast back instead of completely recasting.

The Suicide Squad has a release date of August 6, 2021.
