‘Altered Carbon’ Renewed For a Second Season; Casts Antony Mackie as Lead

New season. New sleeve. Altered Carbon’s official twitter sent out today, announcing the renewal for a second season. The sci-fi show based on the book by Richard Morgan will return to Netflix with eight episodes, instead of the ten it had in season one. Premiering on February 2, 2018, this wildly imaginative show gauged mixed reactions, though; if you ask me, is definitely one of my favorites on the online streaming service.

Primarily played by Joel Kinnaman, the show centers around Takeshi Kovacs as he awakes 250 years after originally being sentenced to a lifetime of being essentially decommissioned. We always knew there was a strong possibility that Kinnaman wouldn’t return for a second season if renewed. Based on the books, the options in the show, and the fact that Kovacs gave his sleeve (body) up at the end of the first season, we knew we were probably going to get a new actor to take his place.

Apparently, we were all right. Altered Carbon has found its new Takeshi Kovacs and he will be played by none other than Anthony Mackie. Mackie is best known for his role as Sam Wilson aka Falcon in the MCU. There has been no mention who else might return for the second season, but considering the show is centered around Kovacs, we at least have the epicenter of the show figured out.

While I’m a huge fan of Joel Kinnaman and disappointed slightly that he will not be returning, I can’t help but be excited that the mantle is being passed to someone as incredibly talented as Mackie. Mackie has a long list of accomplishments such as The Hurt Locker, Gangster Squad, and portraying Martin Luther King Jr. in the TV movie All the Way. He’ll also be returning in the unnamed Avengers 4 in 2019.

Considering Altered Carbon is on my list of one of my favorite shows on Netflix, I will be keeping you updated as I hear further!
