American Gods Season Three Episode 4: Can Shadow and Tech Boy Team Up More?

It’s my true belief that Ricky Whittle and Bruce Langley’s friendship inspired the season three writers to team Shadow Moon and Technical Boy up. Keep in mind that the two never tea up in the book. And the first time Tech Boy met Shadow, he tried to kill him. In normal circumstances, these two shouldn’t be teaming up together. But, in episode four, it works. And I believe that’s all due to the actors behind these scenes.

Slight Spoilers

I can probably go on and on about how much I loved Tech Boy and Shadow’s team-up. It primarily comes from Technical Boy being one of my favorite characters. But, I do want to talk about Bilquis. American Gods has a way of explaining how gods have transformed throughout the years. Becoming different than who they once were in order to stay relevant. We saw this with Mad Sweeney, who was only presented as a Leprechaun in the book. In the show, we see that before he was a Leprechaun, he was a king, and a mighty god himself.

Who is Bilquis?

It seems the show is going in the same direction as Bilquis. There’s always been a question as to who Bilquis even is. Even mythological text doesn’t really know who she is or what faith she belonged to. So, it’s interesting that season three is bringing up this question. I don’t see it much as a redaction but as an evolution. Bilquis has always had to evolve and change.

Laura Moon Has a Powerful Destiny

In addition, we see Laura Moon’s purgatory story continue. With some major moments happening. As a MadWife shipper, let me say that no one can say that Mad Sweeney and Laura didn’t care for each other. The proof is in the pudding. There’s a lot of payoff in episode four and in many aspects, it’s bittersweet. Still, I’m happy that the show did what they did here. It’s strayed away from the book and I’m okay with that.

Rating: 4.3/5

Crispin Glover reprises his role as Mr. World and Marilyn Manson is back as Johan. Some really crazy stuff happens and I enjoyed episode four a lot. There were a few scenes with Wednesday and Cordelia, as well as Wednesday with Johan that didn’t feel particularly like American Gods. Regardless, I liked it and am curious where the events in episode four lead us.
