Ask and You Shall [Hopefully] Receive; The Women of Arrowverse Ask for a Female-Centered Crossover

The Arrowverse has grown rapidly since it first began and one of the things we look forward to the most with these shows are cross-overs. A time for our favorite characters from these series to get together to fight a common enemy. This upcoming year’s cross-over event will especially be special, considering it is going to introduce Batwoman to CW, which we know now will be played by Ruby Rose.

Luckily, the Arrowverse has a large group of strong women within its world; consisting of both superheroes and non-superheroes who help those around them whether it be via science, computer technology, or simply giving the heroes the courage to continue fighting on. Recently sitting down with Bustle, several heroines from the various shows expressed the want to have a female-centric episode.

“On our own show, all of us separately have said to the writers, ‘Let’s have a girls’ episode,'” Tala Ashe said. “Not just for the sake of having a girls’ night, but realizing that it’s kind of rare, actually, to be in a scene where it’s just women. What is that conversation between five [superhero] women when it’s not about a man? That would be exciting to me, so yeah, let’s freaking crossover it up!”

A common trend in superhero centered projects is often the lack of gender diversity and for The Flash’s Candice Patton, bringing on more women to the show is something that she has waited years to see.

“For so long our cast was just two women, [myself and Danielle Panabaker],” Patton said. “My question was always like, ‘When are we getting more women?” We’d go through another season and we’d add a male. And then the next season, we’d add another male. We’re going into Season 5, we just added two women of color [Jessica Parker Kennedy and Danielle Nicolet] on our show as series regulars, bringing our number of female regulars on the show up to four, which is amazing.”

With Ruby Rose joining the Arrowverse, making her show the first one led by a gay superhero; the possibility of having a female-centered episode would simply make sense. Why not have one, as the actresses have all expressed the want for it.

“Emily [Bett Rickards] and I asked Beth [Schwartz, new Arrow showrunner] to have more scenes together this year,” Juliana Harkavy said. “I love working with the women. My favorite thing is to kick butt with other women on our show.”
