‘Bad Boys’ actor Alexander Ludwig Opens Up About His Sobriety Challenges

Actor Alexander Ludwig has enjoyed a successful run in the recent years. He was cast in a starring role as Norse Viking chief Bjorn Ironside on The History Channel’s  Vikings and recently in Bad Boys for Life, the third installment of the “Bad Boys” franchise, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. However, it was not always that easy. Ludwig has been fighting his inner demons since his first drink at age 14. Fortunately, he made the decision early on to get help.

He was very honest about his journey. In fact, almost a year ago, he put out his story in a 15-minute long video that was part of the “Bite the Bullet Stories” series. In the video, Ludwig quite candidly discussed his path to sobriety. This includes a stint in rehab in his early 20s. He talked about it with Variety.

I’m very proud of the decision I made to seek help when I was younger because I needed to. And at the time it was a huge risk for me, both professionally and financially. I also noticed that when I was struggling, and I was looking at all my mentors, there’d be little snippets here and there like, ‘Oh, this person is sober’ or ‘This person’s sober.’ And that would give me a lot of hope.

From his recent successes, it appears that Ludwig has indeed conquered his personal challenges and the work just keeps coming. He is set to play a wrestler in “Heels” on Starz.

Have you liked Alexander Ludwig’s work on Vikings (which is now in its 6th and final season) and on Bad Boys for Life? Does his personal journey for sobriety increase your admiration for the actor? Share your thoughts with us at GeekVibesNation.
