Benioff and Weiss Moving On From Game of Thrones to NEW ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”15381″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]When Solo: A Star Wars Story didn’t perform at the box office as well as expected, it was mentioned that perhaps a slow down in the production of Star Wars films might be in the works. This apparently didn’t faze David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who have taken a leave of absence from HBO to work on their Star Wars trilogy. Normally, HBO would be reluctant to let the talents of creators like Benioff and Weiss stray too far from the farm. However, telling someone they cannot work on a project like Star Wars is problematic if down right impossible. Especially when the men in question are huge Star Wars fans. Of course, they are scheduled to return to HBO once they have scratched their Star Wars itch.

In a recent interview with TVLine, President of HBO Programming Casey Bloys talked about his arrangement with the award winning creative team that has made Game of Thrones one of the best TV shows in history.

Dan and David are finishing up the final season [of Game of Thrones] and then they are going to go into the Star Wars universe. When they come out of that, I assume they will come back to us… It’s hard to say to someone, ‘You can’t go do Star Wars.” They love it. It’s a childhood dream. They’ll go do that, remember why they love television and come back.

While this might sound like wishful thinking, upon their return to HBO, Benioff and Weiss are slated to produce the controversial series Confederate. This series tells the tale of an alternative historical version of the United States, where the South was successful in their efforts to secede from the Union following the Civil War. In the meantime however, it’s complete the Game of Thrones saga and its off to that “Galaxy Far, Far Away.”

With their history of great television in their resume, how do you think Benioff and Weiss will approach the Star Wars universe? If past history is any indication, expect the unexpected in their stories. We encourage you to share your opinions with us at GVNation.
