Best movies streaming right now on Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, Hulu, Prime Video and more

Last updated: August 28, 2026. Streaming availability listed below applies to the United States and may vary by region.

There has never been more to watch at home, but finding the best movies streaming right now can still feel unnecessarily complicated.

Netflix has one movie. HBO Max has another. Something you planned to watch on Peacock suddenly moves to Prime Video. Meanwhile, every service is adding new releases faster than most people can keep track of them.

That is where this guide comes in.

Instead of focusing on a single streaming service, we have searched across Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Paramount+ and Peacock to find some of the strongest movies currently included with a subscription.

Some are recent blockbusters. Others are award winners, horror favorites, animated movies, action films and older releases worth rediscovering. The only real requirement is that they are worth watching.

Because streaming libraries constantly change, this page will be updated regularly as movies arrive, move between platforms or leave subscription streaming altogether.

TL;DR: The Best Movies Streaming Right Now

    • Best movie on Netflix: KPop Demon Hunters
    • Best movie on HBO Max: Sinners
    • Best movie on Disney+: Thunderbolts*
    • Best movie on Hulu: Anora
    • Best movie on Prime Video: Project Hail Mary
    • Best movie on Apple TV: F1
    • Best movie on Paramount+: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
    • Best movie on Peacock: Oppenheimer
    • Best horror movie: Sinners or Weapons
    • Best action movie: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
    • Best animated movie: KPop Demon Hunters or The Wild Robot
    • Best family movie: Inside Out 2

Best Movies Streaming On Netflix Right Now

    KPop Demon Hunters

    Streaming on: Netflix
    Genre: Animation, Fantasy, Action, Musical
Best for: Animation fans, families and anyone looking for something energetic

KPop Demon Hunters became much more than another Netflix animated release.

The movie follows Rumi, Mira and Zoey, three K-pop superstars who use their lives away from the stage to protect humanity from supernatural threats. Their next challenge becomes considerably more complicated when a rival boy band arrives with a demonic agenda of its own.

The supernatural action is entertaining, but the music and chemistry between its central characters are what elevate the movie. Stylish animation, memorable songs and an unexpectedly emotional story helped turn it into one of Netflix’s standout original films.

If you somehow missed the phenomenon the first time around, it remains one of the easiest Netflix recommendations to make.

    How to Train Your Dragon

    Streaming on: Netflix
    Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Family
Starring: Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler
    Best for: Family movie night

The live-action How to Train Your Dragon takes audiences back to Berk for another version of Hiccup and Toothless’ unlikely friendship.

Hiccup lives in a Viking society where fighting dragons is practically a requirement. When he encounters an injured Night Fury, however, he discovers that everything his people believe about dragons may be wrong.

Anyone familiar with the animated movie already knows where much of the story is heading, but seeing Toothless, Berk and the flying sequences recreated in live action gives the material a different sense of scale.

It is an easy choice for families looking for a big adventure that adults can enjoy alongside younger viewers.

    Rebel Ridge

    Streaming on: Netflix
    Genre: Action, Thriller, Crime
Starring: Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb
    Best for: Smart, grounded action

Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge begins with an injustice that appears small enough for the people responsible to ignore.

    They picked the wrong person.

Aaron Pierre stars as Terry Richmond, a former Marine traveling through a small town with money intended to bail out his cousin. When police seize the cash, Terry’s attempts to resolve the situation legally expose corruption stretching well beyond a single encounter.

The movie understands that anticipation can be more exciting than constant gunfire. Terry spends much of the story trying not to become violent, which makes every confrontation feel more dangerous.

Pierre’s controlled performance helps make Rebel Ridge one of Netflix’s strongest action thrillers.

Best Movies Streaming On HBO Max Right Now

    Sinners

    Streaming on: HBO Max
    Genre: Horror, Drama, Action
Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku
Best for: Horror fans looking for something ambitious

Ryan Coogler could have made Sinners as a straightforward vampire movie and probably delivered something entertaining.

Instead, he built something far more ambitious.

Michael B. Jordan plays twin brothers returning to Mississippi in the 1930s hoping to open a juke joint and create something of their own. Their celebration soon attracts a supernatural threat, turning the night into a battle for survival.

Music, history, community and horror all become intertwined as the story unfolds. The movie can be frightening and exhilarating while still having much more on its mind than simply defeating monsters.

It remains one of the strongest genre movies currently available on any streaming platform.

    Weapons

    Streaming on: HBO Max
    Genre: Horror, Mystery
Starring: Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Amy Madigan
Best for: Viewers who enjoy mysteries with their horror

A classroom full of children gets out of bed in the middle of the night and disappears.

    Almost all of them.

That unsettling mystery drives Zach Cregger’s Weapons, which gradually approaches the disappearance through different characters and perspectives rather than explaining everything immediately.

The structure turns the audience into investigators. Details that initially seem unrelated slowly begin connecting, while each new perspective changes how earlier events are understood.

Cregger proved with Barbarian that he knows how to manipulate audience expectations. Weapons gives him a considerably larger canvas while maintaining the unpredictability that made his earlier work so effective.

    Superman

    Streaming on: HBO Max
    Genre: Superhero, Action, Science Fiction
Starring: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult
Best for: Comic book movie fans

James Gunn’s Superman had to accomplish more than introducing another actor as the Man of Steel. It effectively needed to establish what an entirely new DC cinematic universe was going to feel like.

David Corenswet brings warmth and optimism to Clark Kent without making Superman feel naive. Rachel Brosnahan gives Lois Lane the confidence and intelligence the character needs, while Nicholas Hoult embraces Lex Luthor’s obsessive hatred of Superman.

The movie also happily accepts the stranger side of comic books instead of spending half its runtime explaining why superheroes exist.

Most importantly, it understands that Superman’s compassion is not something the character needs to overcome. It is the quality that makes him Superman.

Best Movies Streaming On Disney+ Right Now

    Thunderbolts*

    Streaming on: Disney+
    Genre: Superhero, Action, Drama
Starring: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Lewis Pullman
Best for: Marvel fans wanting something more character-driven

Thunderbolts* takes a collection of characters who would normally occupy the edges of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and makes them the main event.

Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Ghost and others find themselves pushed together under circumstances that quickly reveal a larger threat.

The group is hardly the Avengers. That is the point.

These characters bring emotional baggage, questionable histories and wildly different personalities into every interaction. Florence Pugh continues making Yelena one of Marvel’s most compelling newer characters, while the dysfunctional team dynamic gives the movie a personality distinct from a traditional Avengers adventure.

    Deadpool & Wolverine

    Streaming on: Disney+
    Genre: Superhero, Action, Comedy
    Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman
Best for: Marvel fans and R-rated superhero comedy

Ryan Reynolds finally got Deadpool into the MCU, and he brought Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine along for the ride.

Deadpool & Wolverine throws both characters into a multiverse adventure filled with violence, cameos, comic book references and jokes aimed directly at the complicated history of superhero movies.

The endless references would not mean much without chemistry between its leads. Reynolds’ nonstop commentary becomes much funnier when bouncing off Jackman’s exhausted, angry Wolverine.

The movie is intentionally excessive, but for viewers who have followed Marvel movies for years, much of the fun comes from watching it play with that history.

    Inside Out 2

    Streaming on: Disney+
    Genre: Animation, Comedy, Family
Voices: Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black
Best for: Families and Pixar fans

Growing up was already complicated when Riley only had five emotions trying to control the situation.

    Then puberty arrives.

Inside Out 2 introduces Anxiety and several additional emotions just as Riley reaches an age where friendships, expectations and uncertainty begin changing how she sees herself.

Pixar once again takes psychological ideas that could become overly complicated and translates them into something young viewers can understand without reducing their emotional weight.

Anxiety proves to be an especially effective addition because the movie does not treat her as simply evil. Like Riley’s other emotions, she believes she is helping—even when that help begins spiraling out of control.

Best Movies Streaming On Hulu Right Now

    Anora

    Streaming on: Hulu
    Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
Starring: Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov
    Best for: Award-winning independent cinema

Sean Baker’s Anora starts like a whirlwind fantasy before gradually revealing the instability underneath it.

Mikey Madison plays Ani, a Brooklyn sex worker whose relationship with the wealthy son of a Russian oligarch leads to an impulsive marriage. When his family learns what happened, their fairytale quickly becomes something considerably more chaotic.

Madison gives the movie enormous energy, but Baker surrounds her with an ensemble capable of moving between absurd comedy and surprisingly painful drama.

For viewers who missed one of the most acclaimed movies of its release year, Hulu currently provides an easy opportunity to catch up.

    Nosferatu

    Streaming on: Hulu
    Genre: Horror, Gothic
Starring: Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe
    Best for: Gothic horror fans

Robert Eggers was never going to turn Nosferatu into a conventional modern vampire movie.

His version embraces dread, shadows, obsession and the feeling that something ancient has entered a world completely unequipped to stop it.

Bill Skarsgård disappears beneath the role of Count Orlok, while Lily-Rose Depp gives the story an emotional center capable of matching the film’s enormous visual atmosphere.

Eggers’ attention to period detail makes every room, street and costume feel tangible, which only makes the supernatural elements more disturbing.

Anyone who prefers their vampires frightening rather than romantic should put this near the top of their Hulu watchlist.

    Predator: Killer of Killers

    Streaming on: Hulu
    Genre: Animation, Action, Science Fiction
Best for: Predator fans and adult animation viewers

The Predator franchise has always been built around a simple idea: find some of the toughest people imaginable and then introduce something even more dangerous.

Predator: Killer of Killers expands that concept across history.

The animated anthology follows warriors from dramatically different eras, including a Viking, a ninja and a World War II pilot, who each encounter a Predator hunting worthy opponents.

Animation allows the franchise to stage confrontations that might have been significantly more difficult in live action while opening the mythology beyond the familiar modern-day jungle and military settings.

It is a particularly fun watch for longtime fans interested in seeing how flexible the Predator concept can become.

Best Movies Streaming On Amazon Prime Video Right Now

    Project Hail Mary

    Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video
    Genre: Science Fiction, Adventure
    Starring: Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller
    Best for: Science-fiction fans

A man wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft without remembering why he is there.

Unfortunately, the answer involves the survival of humanity.

Based on Andy Weir’s novel, Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a science teacher whose fragmented memories gradually reveal how he ended up carrying an enormous responsibility far from Earth.

Like The Martian, the story treats problem-solving as entertainment. Scientific obstacles become puzzles that need to be understood rather than excuses for exposition.

Going into the movie without having every development spoiled makes the experience considerably better. For science-fiction fans, this is one of the biggest current streaming attractions anywhere.

    The Wild Robot

    Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video
    Genre: Animation, Adventure, Family
Voices: Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor
Best for: Families and animation fans

DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot begins with a machine where no machine belongs.

Roz, a robot designed to assist humans, finds herself stranded in the wilderness and must slowly learn how to communicate with the animals surrounding her.

Her existence takes on an entirely different purpose when she begins caring for an orphaned gosling.

The movie’s beautiful visual style immediately separates it from more conventional computer animation, but its emotional storytelling is what gives it staying power.

It is accessible enough for children while exploring parenthood, identity and belonging in ways that give adults plenty to connect with as well.

    Heads of State

    Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video
    Genre: Action, Comedy
Starring: Idris Elba, John Cena, Priyanka Chopra Jonas
    Best for: Easygoing action-comedy

Idris Elba and John Cena play world leaders who would probably prefer never to share the same room, let alone depend on each other for survival.

Naturally, Heads of State gives them little choice.

The British prime minister and American president are forced into an increasingly dangerous situation that requires them to put their political rivalry aside while dealing with threats considerably more immediate than bad polling numbers.

The movie works because Elba and Cena understand the assignment. Their personalities clash naturally, with Cena’s broad comedic energy playing against Elba’s more controlled frustration.

Sometimes the perfect streaming movie is simply two charismatic stars arguing their way through explosions.

Best Movies Streaming On Apple TV Right Now

    F1

    Streaming on: Apple TV
    Genre: Sports, Drama, Action
Starring: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem
Best for: Racing fans and big-screen spectacle at home

Director Joseph Kosinski brought the same obsession with speed and practical spectacle that powered Top Gun: Maverick into the world of Formula One racing.

Brad Pitt plays veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who is convinced to return to Formula One and help a struggling team alongside talented young driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.

Much of the appeal comes from how racing is photographed. Cameras put viewers close to the cars and drivers instead of treating races like distant background spectacle.

You do not need to follow Formula One to understand the rivalry, pressure or stakes. Racing fans will simply notice even more of the details.

    The Gorge

    Streaming on: Apple TV
    Genre: Science Fiction, Action, Romance
Starring: Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sigourney Weaver
Best for: Viewers wanting a genre mashup

The Gorge starts with two elite operatives stationed on opposite sides of a mysterious chasm.

They are told to guard it.

They are not told nearly enough about what is inside.

Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy spend much of the film separated physically, allowing their characters’ developing relationship to become intertwined with the mystery surrounding their assignment.

The movie eventually expands considerably beyond its initial setup, moving between romance, science fiction, survival horror and action.

That mixture will work best for viewers willing to follow the story wherever it goes rather than expecting one specific genre.

    Wolfs

    Streaming on: Apple TV
    Genre: Crime, Comedy, Thriller
    Starring: George Clooney, Brad Pitt
    Best for: Star-driven crime comedies

George Clooney and Brad Pitt know exactly how much fun audiences have watching them annoy each other.

Wolfs builds an entire crime comedy around that chemistry.

Both men play professional fixers accustomed to being the person called when a problem needs to disappear quietly. When they are unexpectedly assigned to the same job, neither is particularly happy to discover there is another person who does exactly what he does.

A supposedly straightforward cleanup rapidly becomes more complicated.

The plot is almost secondary to watching Clooney and Pitt trade insults, compete over competence and reluctantly accept that working together might be their best option.

Best Movies Streaming On Paramount+ Right Now

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

    Streaming on: Paramount+
    Genre: Action, Spy, Thriller
Starring: Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg
    Best for: Action movie fans

Tom Cruise has spent decades finding increasingly unreasonable ways to risk his life for the Mission: Impossible franchise.

The Final Reckoning continues the tradition.

Ethan Hunt’s battle against the Entity pushes the IMF team toward another mission where technological threats, global stakes and personal history collide.

The franchise has always understood that audiences can see computer-generated spectacle anywhere. What separates Mission: Impossible is Cruise’s commitment to making viewers wonder how much of what they are seeing someone actually attempted.

If you want a straightforward recommendation for a big action movie to watch tonight, this is one of the strongest options currently streaming.

    Gladiator II

    Streaming on: Paramount+
    Genre: Historical, Action, Drama
Starring: Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal
    Best for: Historical epics

Ridley Scott returns to the Roman arena decades after Gladiator with a sequel built around another man pulled into the empire’s brutal machinery.

Paul Mescal plays Lucius, whose path eventually brings him into the Colosseum while political forces struggle for control of Rome.

Denzel Washington nearly steals the movie as Macrinus, an ambitious power broker who understands that controlling Rome does not necessarily require sitting on its throne.

The sequel aims for scale: enormous sets, political intrigue, arena battles and all the excess viewers expect from a modern Roman epic.

It may not recreate the emotional impact of the original, but it certainly provides spectacle.

    Sonic the Hedgehog 3

    Streaming on: Paramount+
    Genre: Family, Adventure, Comedy
    Starring: Jim Carrey, James Marsden
Voices: Ben Schwartz, Keanu Reeves, Idris Elba
Best for: Families and video game fans

The Sonic movies have become a surprisingly dependable video game franchise, and the third film gets one major advantage immediately: Shadow.

Keanu Reeves voices the fan-favorite character, whose arrival introduces a considerably darker counterpoint to Sonic.

The movie still keeps the comedy and colorful action that made the earlier installments accessible to families, but Shadow allows the story to pull more directly from the games’ larger mythology.

Jim Carrey once again embraces every opportunity to make Dr. Robotnik as ridiculous as possible.

For younger audiences—or longtime Sega fans who never expected these movies to work this well—it is one of Paramount+’s easiest family recommendations.

Best Movies Streaming On Peacock Right Now

    Oppenheimer

    Streaming on: Peacock
    Genre: Historical Drama, Biography
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon
Best for: Serious dramas and Christopher Nolan fans

Christopher Nolan takes the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and turns scientific discovery, government hearings and political maneuvering into something with the intensity of a thriller.

Cillian Murphy gives a remarkable central performance as the physicist whose leadership helped produce the atomic bomb during World War II.

The story refuses to end with the Trinity test. Instead, much of the movie examines what happens after Oppenheimer helps change human history and discovers that controlling the consequences is impossible.

Robert Downey Jr. delivers equally impressive work as Lewis Strauss, whose relationship with Oppenheimer becomes increasingly important as the film moves between different periods.

If three hours does not scare you away, Oppenheimer remains essential viewing.

    Black Bag

    Streaming on: Peacock
    Genre: Spy, Thriller, Drama
    Starring: Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender
Best for: Viewers who prefer espionage without endless explosions

Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag understands that espionage becomes considerably more complicated when the person you may need to investigate sleeps next to you every night.

Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett play married intelligence officers whose relationship is tested when questions arise about a possible betrayal.

The movie does not need to constantly chase characters across rooftops to create tension. Much of the suspense comes from conversations where every answer may contain another lie.

Fassbender’s controlled performance fits perfectly against Blanchett, whose character is difficult to read even when the movie appears to be giving the audience answers.

At a time when many spy movies confuse scale with suspense, Black Bag takes the opposite approach.

    The Holdovers

    Streaming on: Peacock
    Genre: Comedy, Drama
Starring: Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dominic Sessa
    Best for: Character-driven movies

The Holdovers feels like a movie that could have been made decades before its actual release.

Paul Giamatti plays Paul Hunham, a deeply unpopular teacher at a New England boarding school who is stuck supervising students unable to go home during Christmas break.

Eventually, the group narrows to Paul, troubled student Angus and school cook Mary.

The situation sounds like the setup for an easy sentimental comedy. Alexander Payne instead allows the relationships to develop gradually, giving each character enough pain and personality to prevent them from becoming simple types.

Giamatti is excellent, newcomer Dominic Sessa holds his own opposite him and Da’Vine Joy Randolph gives the movie much of its emotional weight.

What Is The Best Movie Streaming Right Now?

For something lighter, KPop Demon Hunters and Inside Out 2 are easy recommendations. If you want prestige drama instead, Anora and Oppenheimer give you two very different options.

How We Choose The Best Movies Streaming Right Now

This guide is not intended to simply repeat the Top 10 row from every streaming app.

Popularity matters, particularly when a major new movie begins streaming, but it is only one factor. We also consider filmmaking, performances, critical reception, audience response, entertainment value, genre variety and whether the movie offers something distinctive compared with other choices currently available.

Streaming availability is also checked before titles are added.

That last part is important because streaming rights can become surprisingly complicated. Movies frequently move from one service to another, and some films can even appear on multiple subscription platforms simultaneously.

Our recommendations focus on movies currently included with at least one major U.S. subscription service rather than movies that require an additional rental or purchase.

Why Do Movies Keep Changing Streaming Services?

Owning the studio that produced a movie does not always mean a streaming service will have permanent exclusive rights to it.

Hollywood distribution agreements can include multiple pay-TV windows, licensing deals negotiated years earlier and arrangements that allow movies to move between competing platforms.

That is why a Universal movie might appear on Peacock before eventually moving to Netflix, or a Paramount movie might simultaneously show up through Paramount+ and another subscription service.

For viewers, the easiest solution is to check where a movie is currently streaming rather than assuming it will always live with the service associated with its studio.
