Bong Joon-ho Reveals He Has Finished His First Script Post ‘PARASITE’

Bong Joon-ho made history this past year when his film ‘Parasite‘ won best director, best original screenplay, and best picture (the first foreign language film to ever win the award). The film captivated audiences with its tragic look at wealth and class gaps, universal themes that truly transcended all audiences and made the film a massive source of discussion and analysis. After winning Oscar gold fans have dying to find out what he would follow it up with, and now the have been given some idea.

In a recent interview with Rian Johnson (Knives Out) on ‘The Directors Cut’ podcast, Joon-ho revealed that he has finished writing the first of two follow up projects.  He spent most of 2020 writing both scripts simultaneously. He told Rian Johnson:

“It feels like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week.”

Bong Joon Ho admitted to his difficulties in deciding on a follow up to his Oscar winning film. In a conversation with Kelly Reichardt for The Atlantic in March 2019 the director admitted to the difficulty of overcoming the general exhaustion of Oscar season and finding the motivation to jump back into the writing process again.

He hasn’t revealed much about the films but did reveal that one film will be Korean based and the other will be American based. And had this to say to Variety last year:

“The Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action…It’s difficult to define the genre of my films. The English project is a drama film based on a true event that happened in 2016. Of course I won’t know until I finish the script, but it has to be set half in the U.K. and half in the U.S.”

Joon-ho would not reveal which of the two project he has finished. How excited are you for Bong Joon Ho’s follow up to Parasite? Which film sound the most interesting to you?
