As the original Star Trek series began, one of the writers tasks was to explore the character of Spock. One of the landmark events of that exploration was the episode Amok Time. In this episode, Spock found it necessary to return to Vulcan to satisfy the Vulcan need to mate.
Called the Pon Farr, Vulcan males must concede to this biological calling every seven years of their adult life. In this episode, the madness that overcame Spock’s logical persona almost had him kill Captain Kirk. And while fans learned more about the character, they were always ready to learn more.
Now, with the upcoming Strange New Worlds, fans are hoping that more will be learned about their favorite Vulcan. And if Ethan Peck is right, they might learn more about the Pon Farr. Perhaps even Spock’s first exposure to the mating ritual. He discussed the subject as well as the work he’s put in to make this show a reality when talking to Variety.
[About exploring the Pon Farr] I really have no idea, but I would think it’s a strong possibility. But I can’t wait to see what we explore. Last year, I basically told myself I was gonna do as many conventions as possible to connect to the fan base and campaign for a spinoff show for Anson and Rebecca and I. We all got along so well, and we all loved the content so much and the message of Star Trek.
Apparently his campaigning was successful as CBS All Access recently announced the new addition to their Star Trek lineup. Are you excited to see the original Star Ship crew be given their time in the limelight? Share your crew evaluation report with us at Geek Vibes Nation.
