Chris Hemsworth on ‘Lebowski Thor’, Wanting to Return to the MCU, and Almost Dropping Out of Ghostbusters

While the “fat Thor” moment was shocking, fans all over the internet have come to use this character development as a major point of discussion when it comes to depression. Throughout the movie, Thor comes to the realization that he is still worthy of carrying Mjolnir and he joins Iron Man, Captain America, and the entire Avengers lineup to face up against Thanos.

According to a recent interview, Thor was meant to revert back to his original body, but Hemsworth insisted that his new form be kept until the end of the film:

“I like that anything goes. You’re not locked into expectations,” Hemsworth said of his Lebowski Thor. “I enjoyed that version of Thor. It was so different than any other way I played the character. And then it took on a life of its own.”

He continued, in reference to his co-stars:

“People just kept coming up and cuddling me like a big bear or rubbing my belly like I was pregnant,” Hemsworth said. “Or trying to sit on my lap like I was Santa Claus. You get a lot of affection. I felt like an old man, an old grandpa, with a bunch of kids around. And then you get sick of it when people come up and grab your belly. ‘Don’t grab me like that!’ I know how my wife felt when strangers would come up and rub her belly.”

It apparently took three hours to apply that makeup for Endgame, but regardless Hemsworth would love to return to the character:

“I’d still love to do more, to be honest. And I don’t know what the plan is. I feel like we’ve opened up such a different character. I feel more energized for the possibility of where it could go…But I’ll use that in other places and other characters if it’s the end here.”

Part of Hemsworth’s transformation with the character was due to the almost rebranding of Thor that occurred during Thor: Ragnarok. Hemsworth was allowed to have more of a comedic role, which we’ve now seen that the actor can do. In 2016’s Ghostbusters, Hemsworth was laugh out loud funny, but he almost didn’t take the role due to how much improvising he was supposed to do:

“The night before I was shooting, I almost pulled out. Three or four weeks prior, Paul said to me, ‘I’m going to write up the character. Don’t worry.’ And then I got the script and nothing had changed.”

“I was really scared walking onto that set. I had no real plan, so I was just feeding off of them, and I just felt ridiculous. So I used that.”

How role in Ghostbusters would go onto being one of Hemsworth’s favorite that he has played. With the recent iteration of Thor throughout the years, I think I can say for everyone – we’re not done with Hemsworth yet.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
