‘Cloverfield’ Sequel In The Works From The Showrunner For ‘THE BATMAN’ HBO Max Spinoff

Surprising news has dropped in the world of creature features. It has been announced today that Bad Robot and Paramount have chosen Joe Barton (The Ritual) to write the sequel to the 2008 found footage monster flick ‘Cloverfield‘. Matt Reeves directed the first film.

The original 2008 film benefitted from mysterious marketing and a smaller budget. This resulted in success in the form of $172 million grossed worldwide. Attempts at expanding the universe have already been attempted two times before in the forms of spinoffs. However, even though 2016’s’10 Cloverfield Lane’ was a critically very well received it was clearly only connected to the original film in the loosest of ways in the form of additional footage added after JJ Abrams secured the rights to the film.

2018’s ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ was received harshly by fans and critics alike due to its overall uneven narrative, But fans did appreciate getting to see the monster on screen again (If only for a brief few seconds in the form of a cheap jump scare). But now, after 13 years of waiting, an actual full-blood sequel is coming.

No details have been released for the surprise sequel other than it is not expected to be a found footage film like its predecessor. How excited are you to finally get a legitimate sequel to the monster film?
